First Car

I recently rode of my 94 magna and have just got 9k from the insurance company today. Im going do do up my first car. A 1977 RA28, when i find another one, i found one but it got sold the next day lol.
Ill be putting in an 18RG engine, i have a couple of mates that have done it b4 so if i have any troubles i can always get them to help. One has a few block and tackles (parents own a caravan store, yippee for me) he says i can borrow one, and one is an auto electrician so i can get help with the wiring if i get stuck.
Ill also need to get a respray, which is where u guys come in lol. I was just curious how much id be looking at for a respray? theres no way i would do it myself, i dont have the tools or the experience and ill want a good job. Also, chances are the car wont be my desired colour so does it cost extra for a colour change than a respray?
Cheers

if u get a colour change, do u want it good, or just a dodgy job.
if u want good u will have to pay more and more time/effort
ie. remove engine etc, or ull have a different coloured engine bar and door edges etc.

can you give me a rough estimate? And how long does it take?
as i said i will be putting in a new engine, so if i can id like to get it sprayed straight after i rip out the old one and then put in the new one after.
Cheers

mate of mine does respraying. For a standard good job, ie. cutting out rust etc etc, and some nice paint, you're looking at 4-6k. He said they've had a dude in there with a Phase III GTHO and they did a full rub back to metal and top of the line job..... 15k

thats what i was going to ask, id rather rub it back myself than pay to get it done. I got quoted $1500 from a mate for a good job so thats not too bad. Theres no way id pay 3k for a paint job, i saw a fully restored celica for $2900 lol. I've only got 6-7k to spend all up.
Can anyone tell me what 18RG engines were the best? I read that just the plain 18RG carby was the better one but i want to make sure.

It would depend on the paint but I'll try and remember to ask him when I see him next. What kind of paint do you know?
