1983 Celica-Supra Foglights...

Ive been having a read.. the foglight rewire (still using H3 bulbs) shows a set colour for 1984/5 models.. and says it should be the same in 82/3 models also..
Thing is.. mine arent. O.o but im figuring it out slowly.
aside from that, it confused the hell outta me.. the low beam is replaced with the foglights yes? high beam is still your popups?
This is what it seems the file i am reading says.
Can anyone give me details?

Unless I'm very much mistaken, the idea behind the "fog light rewire" is to allow the fog lights to come on at any time. From the factory, the Supra's fog lights will only come on when the high beams are on. You'd be pretty silly to drive around with just your fog lights on; apart from being illegal, it's just plain nonsensical since the fog lights are designed for specific conditions (ie FOG, duh) and cannot be expected to safely and effectively replace your low beams.

But if you hit fog, the last thing you want is for your high beams to be on........

True, but now I think about it, they're actually driving lights and not fog lights. Fog lights usually have yellow lenses and a widely dispersed beam.

*nods* that was my thoughts on it too..
However, the file i just found on it, suggests that the rewire can be done so that yes, you can switch them on any time.. though it says that they come on instead of your lowbeam.. so they are on if you have your lights on... however, they forget to mention that you do need to be able to switch them on and off at will.. O.o
Last i knew, what you say about the rewire was right, this file is either written by an idiot/person lacking in common sense, or has forgotten something important.. like a brain.. or both.
however, they do talk about parking lamps a lot.. O.o
Crazy americans. they say nothing about the switch for the foglights
So damn confusing!!!
tsk tsk tsk.. so.. a warning! Do not trust everything you read!
especially stuff by an american guy named j03.. and yes.. those are numbers.
leetists will know.
Peace

japan and the US got proper fog lights, with dainty yellow bulb caps and high dispersion lenses. europe and aust got 'driving' lights - not that they do shit all...

yer, the stocker "driving lights" do noth8ing, apart from make the car look cool from the front when they're on.
I've used them a few times, and the high beams are so much brighter than the driving lights

I've got 100W bulbs in mine and they light up the road quite substantially

I did this to the black supra, <-- refer avatar
Its uber simple....
There is a fuse on the negative side, so all that needs to be done is connect the positive feed to an independant 12v+ source that is ignition switched.
ie. an accessory
Unlike the yank write up that is an essay, all you have to do is this.
- Pull the foglight switch out
- Pull out center console
- Use a multimeter to work out which wire is 12V+
- Cut that wire
- Run a new wire from the cut wire on the switch to the back of the cigirette lighter 12V+
- Tape up exposed cut wire
This now gives you independant control of the driving lights whenever the ignition is in the accessories positon or when the car is running.
The lights will turn off with the ignition regardless of the position the switch is left in (on/off).
The driving lights will still turn on with the high beams selected.
I only ever ran them around dusk just before i put the headlights up. And they look hella mean when they are on by themselves

MMmm... sounds like a good idea!

even with 100W uber white/blue bulbs, i find them USELESS as actual driving lights. utterly piss poor.
still, it does look cool just having them on alone without the headlights popped up.
