1UZ Cressida goes to Wakefield (Or, Biased99's day off!)

Yep, had a run over to Wakefield with a few blokes from work, and a couple of ring-ins...Other cars included '99 WRX, '89 Honda Prelude (actually a "stripped" track-only car), VX SS Commodore and a Monaro CV8...Oh, and my Cressida.
Some of the other cars there included:
BA XR6 Turbo (Only ventured onto the track once - spent the rest of the day parked in the pits )
Late model BMW M3 (Nice! - and fast! <==== That's me as it drove past me down the main straight! )
VX Clubsport - The driver of this one should have got out and pushed...We have some excellent video footage of me going around the OUTSIDE of this one through the hair-pin
Another WRX - Not overly quick; again probably comes down to the driver...)
WRX wagon - This thing was quite fast, and also went past me up the straight (Seriously, having ridden in a 'Rex later, I can appreciate now just how much grip these things have!!! )
Overall thoughts/notes etc.
Firstly, the Cresida created a bit of a stir when I took off for the first time - following the VX Clubsport. You could barely hear the HSV car, then you can hear mine revving to ~7000RPM - captured quite clearly on video - and I had more than a few blokes going "WTF" when I got back, and wanting a look under the bonnet One of the "rex drivers said "Oh, it's no wonder I couldn't catch you..."
The Cressida performed well and the brakes held up excellently! On stock brakes, I could only do 4-5 laps before brake-fade would force me into the pits, but with the new brakes, I was able to do 2 complete sessions (around 20 minutes each) without brake fade. In fact, the limiting factor now was my street tyres, which tended to "go off" markedly after 3-4 laps...
I could consistently out-brake the Commodores and wasn't far behind a work-mates 'Rex. (Having said that, I could NOT stick with that car 'round the circuit - I tried on one lap after he had gone by me, but almost lost it trying to follow the 'Rex's line).
I had a nice duel with the CV8 Monaro (235KW GEN3 with exhaust and 6-speed). He eventually got past me down the straight - after quite a few laps - and said afterwards that catching me was a slow process . Oh, and I owned the auto VX SS.
I had one real "moment" when I went through the "kink" at ~170KPH, then realised I'd over-cooked it, and had a major lock-up. I was heading straight for the sand-trap and was thinking "Get off the brakes..." I released them and re-applied them (the video clearly shows 2 distinct lock-ups), and I managed to modulate the pedal pressure enough to get it 'round the corner. (So I've still yet to venture off the track).
All in all, quite a good day. The Cressida acquitted itself very well, and proved itself more than competitive with cars having (supposedly) much better sporting "pedigree".
Unfortunately, I flat-spotted a tyre, and my diff has developed a minor leak (nothing some gasket goo won't fix). The wife has declared the Cressida's track days over now, so I'm going to do the KE70 Corolla as a track-day car towards the end of this year and into next.

Given that the video was put onto a CD in it's entirety - around 17 minutes all up, in a single MPEG2 file of approx 445Mb in size...unless I can strip bits of it out, and turn it into smaller chunks, I doubt it will be an "online" thing.

Biased99, DivX is a great compression method for video/audio, it uses MPEG4 for video & MPEG3 for audio without much of a loss in quality. If you could get the CD to me somehow I could convert it into DivX and upload it to webspace of your choice. Or I could tell you how to convert it . PM me or leave a message here if you want more info, I did some thinkin and I would be able to get the footage down to at least 120MB(if not smaller), and you can cut it up into smaller bits ie, lots of 5MB files of the "Action shots".

Yeah, nice conversion. FYI, the brakes you fitted of the Commodore aren't 4 piston, but 2 piston sliding calipers. They're still big though, which is the main point.

Correct. The web-page was done prior to them being fitted, and I haven't updated it since.
FWIW, they perform very well. Given that the calipers are actually identical to the VX SS, VX Clubsport and V? Monaro which were there on the day (albeit with larger, slotted rotors in my case), I could continually out-brake those guys into the tight corners, and I didn't get any noticeable fade, whereas the heavy Commodore drivers did...

Hey biased99, got any info on your brakes upgrade? I'm very interested, I'm going up in the world with brakes as soon as i can, especially after only just passing my fade test, only thanks to the lucas pads, thanks for that pointer by the way...

O.K
Brakes are as follows:
Clubsport 330mm rotors, slotted at front, with standard VX/VY Commodore 2-piston calipers. (These are a LOT bigger than the OEM units) I have EBC Green pads at the front. At the rear, there are standard-size rotors, but slotted, with EBC Black (Kevlar) pads. Braided brake lines were fitted at front.
They make a HUGE difference (This, backed up by the best of empirical testing - Taking the car around Wakefield, first with the OEM brakes, second with the upgraded brakes fitted.
However, while the brake setup is a lot of things, cheap isn't one of them...
PM me if you want/need more info...
