hey i had similar problem on a car i worked on the other day
all i did was unscrew the screw on the airflow meter out abit see if it makes it better
it adjusts the idle mixture
just make sure u count how many turns so u can put it back in same spot if it doesnt fix it

Are you sure your temp and O2 sensors are working correctly?

Your thermostat shouldn't make any difference.
If your exhaust sensor is crook or has a bad connection, then your idle and cruise mixtures will be going up and down. If itreads too much oxygen in your exhaust it will richen the mixture and when the engine is cold, it will cut out because it will already be running rich. If it reads too little oxygen, it will lean out the mixture which usually results in engine speeding up.
My advice is to look at the sensor outputs from your microtech and have a look at what is causing the problem then fix it.

ok.. a few things.. i have a GZE in my mr2..
The hunting of the revs can be an air lock in your cooling system.. check that first..
I also get the hunting when my k&n filter is clogged up.. dont know why but it seems to do it..

do u have to have that 02 sensor thingy plugged in your exhaust doesnt microtech handle that? how do u get rid or that air thing in your cooling system, the thing is its tuned perfectly but the idles are problem when the car heats up it starts to get ok but when its cold it idles crazy

i had a similar problem with my gze, i tried playing with every hose etc to see if i had a leak. Anyway, you know on the back of the throttle body there are two small pipes coming out that face the firewall (on a front wheel drive), most people have a hose running from one of the pipes looped around to the other one, (like mine did). When i had your problem, i squeezed the hose (which stopped air flow between the two pipes), and the idle dropped about 200rpm's, so i just ajusted the idle screw a bit and it idled smooth. So i blocked off each pipe seperately.
Weird if you ask me, but it fixed mine.
I've heard cleaning out the throttle body helps too.
Good luck.

The microtech should use the o2 sensor when it is idling and cruising. It does this to get the air fuel as close to optimal as possible. When you are accelerating, the Microtech uses predefined fuel maps and ignores the o2 sensor.
You should have a bleed somewhere on the motor to get rid of the air in the cooling system. I had to do this on my wifes Falcon last weekend. It is on the thermostat housing in them, I can't help you with the gze location. Look around where the temp sender is (not the temp gauge one, the other one).
