how often do these pop up?
ive only ever seen one,
and i loved it
so much that i want to respray my silver one
but i wud much rather find an original black one and pay a little extra than an average ma61 value since it is a rare colour
anybody have a black supra lying around?

The third one was wrapped around a car/tree at 170kmh. For the shape that it is in, im very impressed.

simmons (to suit an ma61) worked out at around $2700 for 8" fronts and 9" rears, cant remember if that was 16" or 17" (but there was only a few hundred dollars difference between the 2)
add on another grand and a bit for rubber, and you're set!
incidentally, there are much better (read: lighter) rims available, but they're also quite a bit more expensive (800-1200 per corner)

the worst thing about supras is that theyre never quite right,
if u find a black one, the paints screwed or its been resprayed, and/or is full of rust or has been repaired from a major acco, if you find a midnight blue or red one its usually got similar problems (probably because the good looking colours were purchased by younger people and consequently neglected and thrashed), the other colours are ok but not awesome, and often if u find one itll have one or many of the afforementioned problems and if in the rare case that it is good it will be an auto with the tea-towel stripe interior and have no sunroof, the only one ive seen lately worth buying was a red one and it was 12,000. (worth it mind u). to get one of the rare "granpa editions" still around youll pay big bucks and chances are the colour will be white or light blue. if you do get a gem, its worth hanging onto and str8 2.8, your supra is a nice car.
if i do find a great black one i will buy it. and if i find two, u can buy the second one.

If it were me personally I'd be saving up and getting your car resprayed. A good bare-metal respray with the associated rust removal will be better than any 20yo paint.
Then you can have the shiniest black car and not have to worry about impending rust problems

Paint stripping is a hell of a job, but normally not hard and worth doing yourself. Properly fixing rust (ie, not bogging) is something I would leave to the professionals. Then, you can pick a better colour than the factory options. Black is a great choice for old Supras - blends in the black bumpers, etc. so the car looks 'newer' and still original. Don't forget you'd hafta hoick the engine out to do the bay as well! I woulda liked to do mine while the engine was out (either black or Heriotte Red).
Peter's black MA-61 was imported from Bahrain - so there's another option for you

good resprays aren't cheap tho.. and for that sorta thing your supra has you be your "weekender", 'cause that will take it off the road for weeks, at the least. plus whiel the engine's out you want to do everyhting possible to it that's my dream... be able to take the supra off the road for a few months, and have the money to make it what I want

Yeah - can vouch for the price of good resprays. The previous owner of mine had it resprayed about 5 years ago - it cost $3,000 for the respray!
Mind you - I love that gloss black!
Just a shame mine doesn't have factory flares & a 2JZGTE - then it would be complete.

Mine was 4,300 with rust removal from the hatch and fixing a dent in the side, was SO PERFECT for the 12 days i had it. then FH drove it into a ditch and i'm still waiting for compensation. it was midnight blue, but i had a bit of the purple removed and a nice blue pearl added. it looked sweet as. an no theres no photos of it in its prime

I can vouch that JAZE is right... I paid an arm and a leg for mine and yes, it was straight till one fateful night in January. Midnight blue (like mine) is hard to find because when I searched for one all i saw was red and white. I did find a black one but it was a complete rust bucket and would require a lot of work to get back on the road.
St8 2.8, just keep your car and then trade it in for the black one if you find it or respray it if you had the money. Good luck.
That's my 2c's worth...
Cheers.
