URGENT HELP!!! 4AC timing belt woes :(

Hiya Ppl,
i'm changing the timing belt on my mums 4AC, and have a few issues...
first up, the idler pulley that sets the belt tension. theres a bolt that goes thru the pulley and theres a hole the spring goes into, and there is another hole that is about 8-10mm, that looks like it's meant to pivot on something...
there is a hole in the alloy case behind it for a plug to go in, for the bracket to swing on, but no plug!!! is this normal for a 4AC?? can i just tighten the pulley in place to set the tension, or should i really have a bit sticking out of the alloy casing for the bracket to swing on.
secodn thing, the manual says to keep water and coolant off the timing belt. how clean does everything have to be?? do i need to fully degrease the covers and the pulleys? ie to ultra clean??
it's raining, and i have too much stuff to do .. if anyone could give me advice on these issues, could you call me on 0410 677 857?? any advice greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!
thanks in advance!!!!!!!!
Cya, Stewart

oh bugger. it looks like there is an exit wound on the bottom plastic cover where something, that is suspiciously the same size as the hole in the idler pulley bracket, has has decided to part with the engine... taking the belt out with it...

Thanks heaps Michael!!
you're a legend!!!
i looked aorund and found the gearbox dowels on k motor are same diameter.. not sure how the solid dowel will be going into the alloy on the 4A, but i'll be careful ... seal it in with loctite or epoxy or something.....
thanks again
