Wanted Brisbane: MA61 Supra diff Sat, 23 August 2003 09:19 Go to next message
I am after a diff from an MA61 Supra, ideally manual.

The axle code will be F303 (3.727:1). If the diff is from an automatic, the axle code will be F293 (4.1:1). One of these will do but I would greatly prefer the manual F303 diff.

As an aside, the final digit may be a 5 instead of a 3, but I'm 99.9% certain that it will be a 3.

If anyone has or knows where I can get one of these in Brisbane it woudl be appreciated.

the final digit being 5 means its a 4 pinion lsd
the final digit being 3 means its a 2 pinion lsd
If its neither of these its not lsd. To my knowledge ma61s didnt come out with 4 pinion lsds.

The one you are talking about is actually a f313 for a manual which is a 3.9:1 ratio. I just pulled mine out of my supra.

Thanks for your input, but I know what the digits at the end mean. I was just not sure if it is the 2 or 4 pinion diff in this model of car, hence my posting both up. As I mentioned, I was 99.9% sure that they were only the 2 pinion diff with the final digit being a 3.

As for it being an F313, this may have been a factory option. To my knowledge (and I would appreciate input from anyone else who has an MA61) the ratios are as listed above.

If anyone has an F313 for sale then that will probably do me, although then the ratio is no good to me as I already have an F312 diff and was looking to move to a 3.7 or ideally a 3.5 ratio (hence my other thread), and possibly fitting an LSD (hence this thread).

Supra 5spd
3.9:1

Supra Auto
4.1:1

Celica 5spd
3.583:1

Celica Auto
3.727:1

Although i just noticed that this also indicates the supra 5spd to to be 3.727:1 on norbies site:

http://www.norbie.net/Supra/P16.jpg

Sorry not too sure on the codes, whether or not this is helpful i dont know, but i just learnt something new if that scan is telling the truth.

When Norbie was over tonight he said that he thought the Mk2 Supra was a 3.9x as well, which is interesting. Most of the technical sites I have looked up list them as being 3.7, which is where I based my information.

This 3.7 ratio is also backed up by Norbie's site. It's possible that they did a run of them with each ratio if they had a surplus batch of them. Alternatively I think there is an 'early' and 'late' Mk2 Supra which have a few minor differences.. perhaps the diff was a part of this.

Toyota have a habit of making minor changes mid-model and not telling anyone.

Celicas and Supras are not the only cars in the world Smile

I have a Corona.

Thanks again for your help, but as I mentioned the system is pretty straightforward and I already know the diff codes. They are listed on a number of sites (the one that I generally use is http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/9975/dataBy Subject/AxleCodes.html)
. If you had read my other thread regarding my want of an RA65 diff, you would have seen that I already have the code.

Chasing a diff from a mid 1980's Celica. I have done some pretty extensive research and have found that the one I need comes only in a manual RA65 Celica.

The axle code on the build plate will be F372. Alternatively I may be interested in purchasing one from an automatic RA65 which is an F302, however this is not really what I am after and would greatly prefer the former.

There are a number of different ratios depending on the model, I certainly wouldn't pay too much attention to that listing. As an example, the RA60 Celica is the same gearing for both manual and automatic. Each model will be completely different to another.
