working on lowered cars :(

Had my first attempt with my mate working on a lowered car. It was his rb20 silvia with a pretty low bodykit on it. We were attempting to change his stock brakes to r32 ones. After about 1/2 an hour of trying to get the stupid thing on the stands we finally did it. In the process driving too far forward and pushing the broom into the wall of my garage. (parents not happy) Then had to find something big to put the jack on because we couldn't lift the damn thing up high enough to actually get a wheel off! Finally got that all off. Pulled hubs and shit off in about another 1.5 hours. Then he realised that his new calipers don't have the same line connections as the old one. So put everything back together again and had to bleed all brakes and waste a bottle of brake fluid.
wasn't too much fun
I told him to come back next weekend with no front bar on or I am not helping!
anyway that is my rant over.

welcome to the world of excessively lowered cars. next time you'll be ready with some blocks to roll the front wheels onto, and a trolley jack right?
super low cars do suck to work on,but it's not the end of the world. like everything else, there are ways around the problem.

nope, gonna have the exact same tools as i did today. He is just going to have no front bar when he turns up at my house
We had a trolley jack and couldn't fit the thing under because of his silly bodykit

yeah, it worked in the end. Just the stupid crap trying to find all the bits in my house. And then getting the jack underneath when there is a whole heap of tent poles in the way! You know, the little stupid stuff that wastes time and pisses you off!
but yeah, we are prepared so next time it will be easier.

Yeah I know what you are talking about.
Since I lowered the wagon I have to use two jacks to get the back wheels off. I run out of travel with my trolley jack jacking the chassis the rear axle just piviots and jut stays on the ground. When you jack up the axle and diff the wheel leaves the ground but becasue of the low top lip on the rear guard you can't pull the wheel out of the guard.
Solution jack the axle so the wheel leaves the ground then jack the chassis just slightly so it moves away from the wheel, hey presto a wheel change.
Just in normal situations if im gonna jack the car i have to roll onto some bricks or timber.

tell me about it
have crawled under a dumped JZA80 twice in the past 2 days, and there is no way a trolley jack gets anywhere near fitting, so it's been 2 hand jacks to get that baby up... and I get to do it all again in a few days

Why dont you all stop bitching and get some inch thick planks of wood?
You put one plank either side in front of the wheels and then drive the car up onto them, if thats not high enough then put another 2 planks in front of the wheels and then drive the car forward again!
And if that doesnt make the car high enough to get a jack under, then stop being a bunch of freakin honda driving rice boys and get a real car

I have to drive onto planks of wood... Jack the car up and put the stands under the sill...
Put down bricks and more wood and then place the jack onto that... Jack it up more and then get the stands under the chassis... Just a general PITA...
I wanna get me a good trolley jack like the ones that we have at work... But $400... I dunno about that...
