100kw Inlet manifold not mating to head?!?!?! Please help :) Sun, 24 August 2003 11:15 Go to next message
I got a 100kw Inlet manifold to bolt up to my motor. Now, the 100kw head is the small port type, and the motor im puting it on to is a 4AGZE. Now im told and have read that the 4AGZE head is also a small port type. My probl;em is the bolt pattern is ok, but the ports dont match up from the manifold to the head.
Whats the deal? Is there a spacer plate between the 100kw manifold and head like the 86kw tvis or am I missing a part? Please help as I dont want to use my 86kw manifold.
Regards, NOS4AG!!!!!

depends on which 4AGZE u have.
if you have an early dizzy type 4AGZE then you need a big port 86kw manifold with TVIS adaptor plate ect
if you have the later 4AGZE with CAS then you need the 100kw small port manifold.

Cheers Grega, I didnt know that! Fuk, I will have to have words with the guy that sold it to me then! He said it was from a '91 Trueno front cut and hense , it came with the CAS and coils. This is weird! He either changed the head to a 4age 86kw big port or lied about it and its just an old MR2 4AGZE dink! Shit!! Im pissed off!!
Ahh well cant win em all!
Thanks for the help boys!

Its not quite as simple as some have said.

There are three basic versions of the 4AGZE:

(1) MR2 which has Distributor, AFM and Bigport head.
(2) Early AE92 which has CAS/DLI, AFM and Bigport head.
(3) Late AE92 and AE101 which has CAS/DLI, MAP and Smallport head.

Now, if i understand you properly it comes down to a couple of things.

Is it the original 4AGZE head or has it been swapped? If its a 1991 4AGZE then it will be the Bigport head. In this case the 100kw manifold will work albeit not a good match by any standards.

Your options are these, use a FWD 86kw manifold (if its still going into the red rolla i remember) or swap the entire head and manifold for a 100kw version, beware though the cams are different.

Any more queries just ask away...

Rex

hey Rex! Long time no hear Smile Yeah, well it is gonna go on the new motor ( which is goin in the red corolla ) but the 100kw manifold looks so much better than the 86kw one. And im not gonna change the head, ive just spent heaps on all new gasket and seals on the whole motor. So ill just have to clean up the old one and use that. Ive obviously got the Early AE92 motor then, I was just hoping that it wasnt the MR2 engine. Gotta love something a bit newer hey! Smile If I did change the cams, id probably go for some HKS cams, they are pretty reasonably priced from www.hksusa.com. Im gonna try and get as much power as I can out of the turbo ive got on at the moment, and then either put on a lot bigger turbo or get a new project car. Ive been offered a 1984 Sprinter Smile for $500! Killa!!!!!!
Anyway hows those old engines of mine going? Any new projects for yourself?
We'll talk soon!
Regards, NOS4AG!
