jza80 o2 sensor problems - and where to get a new one Mon, 25 August 2003 06:27 Go to next message
a mate's jza80 has just had the wires pulled out of the o2 sensor (stupid speed bumps).
We've pulled out the o2 sensor, but the problem is the wires look to have been ripped our from the actual sensor, so the metal tube they're normally in (5cm long or so) is now empty, and we have nowhere to reconnect the wires to!

We're wondering if there's some trick to reconnecting them (by some slim chance) or, more likely, where we would get one from. it's an aftermarket exhaust, but I think the o2 sensor is still the stocker (2 bolts on a metal plate, o2 sensor on one side, 5cm of metal tubing on the other).

much appreciated (as he's not keen on running it as rich as it currently is)

edit: and how much could he expect to pay for a new/second hand one?

how many wires does/did it have??

a while back i got some 1 wire with flange for about $40 and 4 wire heated, but no flange for about $60. i'll have some Bosch and NTK 4 wires soon...
you can use a heated one where stock is a 1 or 2 wire sensor. just need power and ground for the heater (it has a fixed resistance so it doesn't get 'too hot')

i'm interested to see what other ppl want for new sensors....
cheapest i've heard is about $60 for single wire and about $100 for 4 wire. stock GM 4 wire is about $170

Are you sure it's the O2 sensor ? I thought it was up near the dumps like the 1JZ. The sensor half way down the exhaust is a temp sensor behind the cat if it's the same as a 1JZ (Soarer at least).

uuummmm...... ok

well, it's got 2 wires on it, white and black.

called toyshop in n'castle, and they seemed to know what we were talking about. the other place we called said the jza80 had 2 o2 sensors (!?!)
anyhow, after they said that I had a feel around, and sure enough found an o2 sensor where the twin pipes join...
but toyshop is sending down the correct part (the one with one white and one black wire, with the curved metal pipe off the flange)

JZA80's have two sensors in the exhaust. The one closest to the engine is the O2 sensor, and the other one is the exhaust temperature sensor which is used to determine when the cat is on its last legs.

really?
interesting, because the cat on his a/m exhaust has been moved back, so the sensor is before the cat.

regardless, it seems to me making his car run poorly, so probably best to fix it
