Leaking Injector HELP! Tue, 26 August 2003 07:44 Go to next message
The #2 injector on my 7MGTE is spraying fuel onto the block out from under the little cap that sits next to the block that the injector sits in.

I am getting it looked at professionally next Wednesday, but until then my car is squirting petrol out onto the block as I drive.

Should I not be driving it? How hard is it to fix this?

Thanks guys

Andrew

Tends to be quite a common occurance on M series engines that are getting towards the 15 - 20 yo end of life...

A simple injector overhaul is the answer to your questions.. while its not the cheapest thing to get rebuilt it is well worth it... your idle will pur like a kitten and you might even notice a power increase, its that good...

Amazing what cleaned and flow tested injectors can achieve... look around the 300 dollar mark for full workshop overhaul.. parts and process are a back yard thing... or look at getting a mobile mech to have a look at it.. tends to be cheaper.. but then you wont be getting flow tests etc..

If your real keen to save money, disconnect everything from around / above the injectors to save on labour as this is the biggest killer...

Usually it's just a busted seal, but 99.99% of workshops will want to give it the overhaul... get then to check all the wiring connection if you want it done properly as these become dodgy overtime and can impede? / promote resistance.

Have fun, - as for the driving bit ? depends if you enjoy a good risk Smile If that side of your engine gets hot enough to start a fire you should look into your cooling efficancy..

So to get an injector overhaul, it will only cost about $300???

But what if you have to take the manifold covers off? It looks like that is what you will have to do to get the rail off. Wouldn't that drasticly increase the time taken?

aside from the wiring etc, it is quite possible to remove the rail + injectors and take them to a shop for an overhaul/service, then bring 'em back and replace them?

I simply took all my injectors out and gave them to a guy and it cost me about $100 to have them cleaned & checked/serviced (they needed to be cleaned twice 'cause they were so old so it would've been cheaper if they weren't so stuffed) so it's not that expensive if you do most of the work yourself.
