Hey man i don't have an ae-71, but purchasing super-low king springs was by FAR the best thing ive ever done to my car.
I wish i could go back to that day when i first picked it up from the suspension place. . .

i have kybs in my car, nice shock and really cheap. i can't really compare, because ANY shocks would have been better than the no shocks i had before.
you may find king low springs to be not all that low,
just dont make my mistake and dump it on its ass.
if you are doing the work yourself, get a wheel alignment soon after you lower it.

If you don't want to get too complicated, I would start with some stiffer front and rear anti-roll bars.
Next get some good quality shocks and slightly stiffer springs. I wouldn't lower the car more than about 1 inch. Going further than this will start to stuff up your geometry and the cars manners will go out the window.
