opinions on Jaycar Response speakers? Tue, 26 August 2003 14:08 Go to next message
Heya Ppl,
while not really car tech related.. i'm having difficulty finding unbiased info on the Jaycar Response range of speakers... looking at maybe 6" splits... CS-2297, CS-2288, CS-2298.

anyone have experience or opinions of these, or suggestions of better speakers in similar price range or value?
magazine articles generally say they are good value, but personal opinions vary between good to crap...

so, whadda you guys n gals think?? worth the $$ or just cheap crap?
Cya, Stewart

i have never had a single issue with any of the re-sponse drivers. youll get nothing but praise from me.

i went way techo speaker shopping one day, comparing all the specs of the re-sponse drivers compared to JBL, kenwood, sony etc... and they either came up equal or better to the top brands (atleast on paper) and you know jaycar doesnt fudge its figures...

and for the price...youd be hard pushed to find better... JBL would be its closest rival in price/spec i think

cheers

thanks guys,
i've always been partial to jaycar stuff, bnut wasn't sure if it had 'Sonyitis' with good amps and crap speakers Wink (or am i mistaken there too?)

all i need is to be able to hear them over my car (Ed, you know what i mean Smile )
thanks again for your thoughts guys, i'll give these kevlar splits a go.

I'm running the Re-sponse 4 channel 50w amp, 4" 2ways in the front and 6x9 2 ways in the rear.

They have worked fantasticly for what i wanted them to do, and i dont think i could have got the same bang-for-the-buck out of anything else.

I fully recomend them!

Craig.

The following is an unbiased opinion of a person employed by jaycar to sell products from 9am-5.30pm on particular days. In no way does it reflect the will/doing on the Jaycar marketing system...... Very Happy

Dude, i have put the kevlar splits in 3 cars now... and from each person i have received nothing but praise (including my sister).
My personal opinion is that they aren't very *bright* up top like most splits are these days (designed to get that DOOF DOOF TISH TISH effect) since they use a silk dome tweeter instead of a metal dome. To this effect i find them nicely balanced between highs and mids, not too lacking in that high-mid range (female voices and just above) which most 6.5" are missing.
FOr the retail price of $199 i can't fail them - SERIOUSLY. $199 will get you the craptacular range in any brand name.
Myself i don't have them cos i wanted something BETTER, so i opted for a set of $450.00 blaupunkt velocities..... which mind you arent that much better.

I think the kevlars are great for soft, untainted sound reproduction..... unlike the Sony/pioneer/kenwood lot which BOOM-TISH their speakers to buggery.

As for amps. Again - best value for money and decent specs. I can find much better amps certainly, but i would have to pay 3 times as much money for the same power.
I challenge ANYONE to find an amp matching the power output specs of the AA0435 for under $500 retail. (4x 120Wrms@ 4ohm, 13.8V.... 2x 320Wrms @4ohm, 13.8V)

P.S. PM me for prices Stewwie Wink

I'll just say my opinion is from someone who works for the competition(DSE) and the speakers work better than most Laughing of the ones we sell.

I have a jaycar response 10" sub and a 160W amp that powers it, and they both get my wholehearted approval. Best value for money ever, and decent quality gear, australian made too am i right?
I also have some of their tweeters, crossovers, and mid's!! etc...

Mind you this is all home gear, not car audio gear... But its all good none the less.. I may get response car speakers son tho, tell us what the splits are like if u get em...

I personally think they sound better then Pioneer and Alpine.

I agree, the best value for money speakers available.

Prefer Soundstream for Subs and Amps.

From most of the stuff I have heard, the Jaycar stuff is pretty good. They do over rate there amps and the power handling of their subs (there 2 x 100 RMS amp is more like 84 or something like that). A mate has the $150 single voice coil 12" sub and my Kicker 12" craps all over it, but I guess you get what you pay for (about $70 diff).

I have heard a few people rave anout there dual voice coil subs, and then the cheaper non response labled splits are supposed to be total crap.

Best thing to do is listen to something first.

when it comes to the jaycar amps, only the blue versions have been overrated (the 4x50Wrms and the 2x100Wrms).
Both the 2x150Wrms and 4x100Wrms amps are UNDERRATED on their ability.

As for subs, it depends which model you are talking about, and what kind of box was used. I have a dual 12" box here at home that used to be in my old car which can litteraly shake things off shelves at home, which cost me all of $340 worth of subs, and the usual building materials!

The 12" DVC, "precision" or more commonly known "double mag" sub is one excellent piece of machinery. All you have to do is see what they guys over at Car Audio Australia forums.

Yup, I love em. I've got 2 6.5"s, 2 6x9s, 2 10", 2 2x100 amps and a 2x150 amp, plus the super tweeters, all good stuff! Very Happy Sounds better than an awful lot of the other stuff, especially under double the price.
