I HAD a nice set of Yoko 509s, but as they were down to the treadwear indicators I had the tyres shop take 'em off when I got new rims+tyres put on.

Thanks. Yours too. Wonder why the RACV wouldn't allow them? They're the right offset, made by Toyota, the Supras - which are identical from the firewall back on the IRS celis - had them standard, and they don't stick out of the guards. Celicas in the US got them from the factory! (albiet with fender flares too) What was the reason they gave you?
I know a guy who asked transport and they said they wouldn't let him have Supra wheels - but they thought they were 8" rims.

thing is, they don't stick out. With 205/60/14 tyres, the widest part of the tyre is still just within the guards. The rims certainly do not. At the back... well you know how wide the body is at the back compared to the front. No worreis there!

nah the supra wheels don't really stick out. I didn't think about the insurance, i just put them on as soon as i got home from buying them (actually my friend put them on, i'm too lazy). i don't see why there would be a problem since the supras had them. Is there much differences between the supra wheels and the soarer wheels? as far as i can tell it's a matter of whether you want wheels that are big and narrow or small and wide. also dragunov, what seats have you got in your car? they don't really look like the celica seats, look more like supra seats.....

Maxdamage yes they are Supra seats ($135 from a wrecker but well worth it! I'm very thin and I can get them to hug me very tightly via the 8-way adjustability ).
I doubt there is a good reason for the RACV limiting the wideness to 6". They're just being over-cautious i guess.

was the $135 each or for the pair? What wreckers did you get them from? was it a self serve place like pick a part or something like toyospares? if the 135 is for both seats, that's a pretty good price.

May I ask how much the Supra rims were and if they were hard to find? They're so hard ti find that I had to buy two tyres I didn't need just for the old rims they were attached to, then restored them by hand.

The wheels on my car (and Maxdamage's) are Supra wheels, if that's what you mean. 14x7. In other countires they came stock on Celica GTS aswell, which have flares like our Supras.
I'm not sure what they are worth. There are some highly polished (very nice) ones for sale for $475 by someone on toymods at the monent, can't remember who. As you can see from this thread, Maxdamage paid a lot less for his. I payed somehwere inbetween with 2 tyres, but they were in extremely crap condition and I spent ages restoring them by hand. If I did it again, i'd much sooner pay more for polished ones as restoring is an ardous task.
Nismo wheels? what do they look like? what size? I hope the offset is right!

To dragunov_ra60.
I just bought an ae86 sprinter and it has original 13inch alloys. Are your 14's alloys? If you can't get rid of them I'd be interested just for the fact that they're 14's and easier to get tyres for.
Paul.

$250 is a bit steep for the supra seats, i paid 150 for mine not so long ago but they were the stripey maroon colour and had to be replaced later on in the piece with s13 silvia seats which then fell apart due to nissan is a bunch of tosswads and didnt make the seats to last very long resulting in the side brackets on both seats (one at a time) snapping, making the seats useless
i would never buy seats from a jap importer as most of the seats are there cos when the cars are imported over here they dont meet aussie regulations and must be replaced, probably due to in japan the average car only lasts a few years anyway

Hi Frank, Thanks for telling me that they're 14's. I never would have known (der! the original post said it). My question was actually asking if they are alloys. Are they the 14' alloys that you see on the 80's Tarago's or are they just steelies.

Suggest trying EBay, we sold some Celica 14" there a month or two ago for $200. Some people like to have the word 'TOYOTA' on their wheels. Good Luck.

Only a set of 4.. though depending on what car you have - a steel rim fits better as a spare , especially if like in the early ta22's they are held in by the centre hole ..

Just a comment of why the RACV didn't permit the supra rims, is that the australian design rules allow for 2 inch increase in diameter but only one inch in width, most of the celica's came with a 5.5 inch rim which means only 6.5 inch rim can be "leagally" fitted.

I don't know where in what ADR it says 1" in width... The only restriction on width I know of is that the rims must fit under the guards.
There is an ADR which states the "track" must not vary by more than 1" (without an engineers cert) but track is very different to width.

I would be very inclined to point out that:
1) (if IRS rear) a Supra is identical from the firewall back, and even more strongly
2) Our cars were offered in other markets (ie the US) with the 7"x14" wheels stock.
The offset etc of the supra wheels is perfect, and from personal experience, the car really feels much more sorted with the 7" wheels. I strongly believe the car was designed around the 7" rims first and they then stuck the 5.5" on the lower-spec models.

Just a quick note on Vehicle mods, re wheel width, legally, you can only fit a wheel that is 1" wider than the widest wheel offered by the manufacturer. There are also limits in how much you can increase the track, I think its 25mm in total. You can find all this out on your states relevant Vehicle rego dept.
Cheers!
Rob
