Lighter caliper than hilux 4 spot

Hello, I have the 4 spot hilux caliper/xt130 strut/peugot disc upgrade on my Celica.
Is there any lighter calipers around that would fit without too much hassle? RX7 series 4? Nissan 4 spots?
Have heard VT calipers are a possibility, but seem to require larger discs which end up making it a heavy conversion again.
Thanks
Joel

That's Jamie's beast. The 4V V8 has been exchanged for a TT 1UZ. I think there is some info on Planet Soarer.
WRX 4 spots, RX7 4 spots, Nissan 300ZX/GTSTRDSZLKHKGYT type Skyline 4 spots will more than likely be be lighter than the Hilux calipers. How easily they will adapt I have no idea.

I think s14 calipers are cast iron , the alloy ones are off gtr's and 300zx's.

DJ345 - i've heard the same about the cast/alloy ones.
When I originally got my xt130 struts that have the 90mm spacing for the caliper to bolt up someone said to me (and I wish I had paid more attension) that when you become concerned with weight there is another caliper that would bolt up. But cannot remember if they said nissan or wrx.. Think it was one of the 2.
Problem is its not just like going to a wrecker and matching stuff up, these calipers aren't super easy to come by.

The Nissan disc is either 30 or 32mm thick, so you'd be needing a thicker disc than usually used for the Peugeot combo.
From memory the Subaru ones start at 24mm for the 2-piston versions and get towards 28mm as well, so they'd be too thick too.

Yeah I don't mind having to change the disc really. But would be nice to find a caliper that would bolt to the strut. Otherwise have to get new mounting plates made etc which is all possible of course.
Cheers

There is nothing else lighter than a Hilux 4 pot that bolts to a 90mm caliper bolt hole spacing on an XT130 strut. If you want a lighter caliper, get a Willwood, Nissan or WRX one, custom make an adapter bracket, and bolt that combo to your strut. Then, change the rotor as these calipers work on thicker disks, and you will need to redrill the hub mounting holes and the centre hole diameter.
Cheers,
Mitch.

Yeah found out nissan 4spot alloy is 100mm spacing.
But someone on the forums here said when they were buying xt130 struts they accidently got a set that were 100mm spacing.. That'd be perfect if I could find them!

what is the actual matter with the hilux setup? - just the weight?
how does it pull up?
and how much weight do you think it will actually save?

Yeah just the weight i'm concerned with. Trying to cut down as much unsprung weight as possible at the moment. And while im making up new coilover struts etc I figure its the best time to re-asses the brakes.
They pull up fine.. But figure there could be as much as a 15% reduction in unsprung weight by going to some light weight alloy calipers.. I only quickly worked that figure so not sure how accurate but yeah.. Substantial amount really.

G'day Joel,
All the suggested options sound good so far. Just to be different, have a look at Volvo calipers. Alloy 4pots and cheap as chips. They are used a lot for escorts and other small club cars.
Don't go sacrificing braking ability for unsprung weight. Make sure that whatever you choose is going to perform as well.
One thing to look at with alloy calipers is the stiffness. Some aren't so good and open up a little under hard braking. This gives you a softer pedal and less feel. Thats why the alloy calipers are so much bigger than an equivalent steel one.
