If you are fitting it because of overheating problems you will be worse off , the standard fan will cool a lot better than an electric fan .

try mounting the fan on the other side of the front brasket (although id say this might be hard on your particular car)
why wont it fit? different engine? different radiator?
electric fans dont work as good as engine driven ones, but they can lower your parasitic drag, and if the engine doesnt overheat, they should work fine.
now you can start the argument of whether it is better to have the thermo fan "blow" or "suck"

A Thermo fan "should" cool better then a engine driven one due to the fact the only time a fan is required to move air is when the car is stoped or at low speed and thus the engine is at low speed so is the fan IE not moving as much as an electric fan fully on no matter what engine speed.
what kind of fan are you trying to fit on it that wont clear the engine??

The fan I am fitting is only a standered one but the clearence between the waterpump and radiator is very small on a TA22 Celica

if i was living in darwin and had a standard engine i would keep the standard setup other wise you may experience massive heatsoak

If reversing a fan from behind the rad to in front and so having it blow rather that suck you may need to change the fan. I've seen on at least davies craig fans instructions to reverse the fan if blowing. This needs to be considered along with motor polarity.

As clubagreenie said you can reverse the fans sometime simply by changing the polarity and you can also take the fan off alltogether and turn it over this is what i did on my 23 when i mounte the fan on the front of the radiator

Most fan blades are designed to work efficiently in one direction only; that's why it's not a good idea to reverse the polarity. It will work, but reversing the fan blades will work much better.

i want to change my engine fan to twin 10" thermos
i will put them on the front of the radiator, should i keep the radiator shroud that goes around the fan or take it off?
Doesnt the engine fan rape HP?

If it's a clutch fan, it will use a very small amount of power. Maybe 1 or 2 hp at high rpm, at the very most.

FWIW: in my RA40, i had a 16" davies mounted behind radiator in place of factory (clutch centre) fan and cowling...
But i went back to factory fan/cowling - takes a bit longer to warm up engine, but holds temp steady except climbing the big hill to Maleny (Qld) under heavy boost and recovers quickly afterwards now too.
opinion?: use two 12/14" thermo fans with suitable ducting to push air from front when the going gets heavy, but try to keep the factory fan with cowl to stop heat-soak under the bonnet. If you want to chuck the factory fan - keep the cowl somehow.
The earlier Rxx engines prefer to always have airflow under the bonnet.

So which one is it better for slightly modified motor that runs hotter than usual? I have a RA29 with 20R Motor. I have headers and 'cooling-problems'. I think water pump.
Anyways. Is the flex fan recommended or the thermo fan in my situation? I live in the states, in my area, it gets pretty hot on hot days. Cooling probs will be solved soon...
But i will buy fan before this is done. I also drive traffic (stop and go / low speeds) and run autoX/gymkana courses on weekends.
Thanks for input!

if your water pump's fkd then getting a new fan wont fix it, hunt one down or you will hurt your engine.
get a new thermostat while your at it to jks dude

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with the stock fan - I don't have any problems with my RA23 even in the height of summer. If you're having cooling problems there's something else wrong - probably water pump or radiator.
