icon4.gif  MA61 - Exhaust and Extractors needed? Fri, 29 August 2003 15:05 Go to next message
Hey All,

I have been thinking. Currently i am running a stock exhaust system on my car and my friends are bugging me to upgrade the exhaust to a bigger noiser one?

Should I and if so what benifits do i get? What size in dia.? Does it affect insurance and petrol consumption?

Cheers...

the 5m-e isn't really a powerhouse. an exhaust will give you some improvements, but still wont make it a good car. If you're after noise, just get a ricer muffler.
personally, I wouldn't be wasting my money on a new exhaust system on a stock ma61, unless there was something wrong with the one on it.

all shapes and sizes tho Smile

Agreed. I might add that a stock 5M-E with a loud exhaust isn't going to sound good - just loud. Tell your friends to quit bugging you, and save up for a real engine. Razz

I have a strait thru 2.5 inch system on my MA45 with a 5m-e most people think it sounds good (the side pipe sounded errr too good Very Happy )

Where in melbourne are you ill take you for a run in it and see what you think and frankly the 5m needs all the help it can get and an exhaust is something easly modifyed a gruntyer engine later on

seems no one makes extractors for a 5me obviously
requiring some expensive custom work which
i think could be better spent cash

Thanks for your reply the reason for it is that i want to keep the car orginal and standard as possible.
I just getting a rough ideas for enhancing the engine without replacing it.
Why fix things if nothing is broken.

Umm... to make it go faster/better? Because you, like most on these forums, have a strange insatable desire to tinker with your car? Smile

FWIW,

My 5ME had a 2.5" crush-bend system (no extractotrs) and a filter-pod. Wasn't deafeningly loud - but a hellofalot louder than stock - several people asked if I had a v* under the hood (if only ...).

Extra power from the system? Well, it sounded nice. Maybe a few ponnies on the freeway, but not anything to get excited about.

I just sold my 5ME. When I added up the previous owner's receipts, he spent over $6K in 6 months ($485 for an AFM reco.!)getting the single cammer & auto up to scratch. That's almost what the 1JZ swap is costing me. A much better use of money.

That said, I am selling the old 2.5" exhaust system off my Supra.
