he he you'll not like this!!!!!
the casting has a very "nobbly" texture...
the polishing kit I get has 6 mops for each 6 different stage (what you see there is stage 1!)
to get rid of the casting bumps you have to sand then down!!! first with rough sand paper, then finer... its not going to be perfect.. not glass mirror perfect... there are still a few dimples and scratches......
but its enough for the inital "wow"
its hard work, I'll not lie!!!!! but I think its well worth it I'll keep the pics updated!!!!

what are you using to polish it? I'm tempted to get to work on mine. not for a mirror finish, but it's looking a bit dirty and uncared for, and I'd just like to clean it up

Drooooooolllllllll
Very nice. Having polished a few rough cast things before, I can appreciate the many many hours you must have put in to get them this far. My preference is a die grinder with Scotchbrite discs. You must have arms like Arnie to want to do it by hand.
Can't wait to see it finished. I was thinking about doing the same until I started to count how many bits of alloy are bolted on to a 1G. Still might do it one day but at the moment I have a diff screaming and some body panels in need of attention, so I guess you could say I have other priorities.

AW yeah.. forgot.....
the intercooler pipe badges are missing I accidently destroyed them taking them off for the polishing lol... new ones are on order!!
the polishing kit is from http://www.perfectpolishingkits.co.uk/
Had to sand the cast parts down
first to take out the sand casting marks... then polished away!!!
think I'll do the AFM and the strut top rings at some point... and eventually the entire throttle body.. but its going to be a hard shape to do!!!!!!!!
just need to sort out the smokey turbos now
