3" exhaust query...

O.K. This may seem like a "how long is a piece of string?" - type question, but here goes:
Just say I have an exhaust from a V8 which has 2 2.5" primary pipes joining into a 3" collector. (As luck would have it, I do! ). Now, from this 3" collector, the pipe from there back "necks down" to a single 2.5" pipe, a 4000cc cat, a muffler and a resonator. Can anyone give me an idea of what it "might" cost in a Sydney workshop to have this entire 2.5" length replaced with a 3" pipe (including 3" cat, muffler, resonator and tail-pipe).
Sorry it's a little vague, but I feel it will probably be cheaper up there, and I also feel that, as a means of freeing up my exhaust, this option offers better "bang-for-buck" than the prohibitively expensive option of having headers custom-fabricated to suit the Cressida...
(If anyone knows someone in the exhaust trade, that would be extra helpful!)
Thanks in advance.

so basically you want a 3" cat back exhaust with muffler and resinator? IF that is the case, then i would expect to pay around $400 to $500. I am not in sydney though.

just so you know, that will maybe give you 2-3 hp
almost all of a performance exhaust's gains are made close to the turbo/engine, which is why a lot of true performance cars have a 4" dump off the turbo, down into a 2.5" at the end

Trust me, I've considered this. However, the space in my engine bay is so minimal as to almost preclude the idea of headers...I'm told they CAN be made up but that, for what I'd gain (minimal) the cost (approaching $2k) isn't worth it...
Oh well. I guess I'll leave it as is.

for $2k you could buy a decent small MIG and make your own!!! i'll make them up for you for $1k
it really depends what the stock manifolds are like. as time goes on, and manifolds get better, the benefit vs cost decreases.
is the 2.5" restricting things? you could tap a line to the exhaust and see what back pressure you are getting? if there's no substantial pressure before the 2.5" section, then no need to change..
