gze loom trouble in ae82 Sun, 31 August 2003 13:42 Go to next message
hey all

just having a bit of trouble getting the gze loom through the ae82 twinky's firewall, got the first few but cant get the yellow ones through, also, if i get it through it doesnt look like theres gonna be much length to plug the computer in, cos it will be right behind the heater box/fan.

any ideas?!

thanks

Hey,

You either have to extend the loom to fit into the OEM AE82 Loom gromet.

Or....

Create another hole into the firewall like the AE92 ECU gromet position which is more central than the AE82 position.

i dont really wanna re-drill another hole for it, but then again , extending all those wires sounds like a big job as well.

what do you think would be the easyest and best way? cos if i have to drill a new hole i'll have to move a heap of shit to get in there, or if i extend all the wires. thats alot of soldering lol and heat skrink

Ok your options are as follows....

1. You extend the wires on your GZE loom which go into the cabin. (Trying to keep all the colours the same albeit optional on your personal preference) This may take a day to a week.

2. You use the existing AE82 loom hole but you will find that you will not be able to put the new ECU in the factory location. So you can relocate the ECU closer toward the passenger side. (eg. under the carpet)

3. You keep the factory ECU position and use a door handle hole type drill creator thingy (sorry dont know what its called)
and just create a new hole like the half-cut one. But make sure you position it well otherwise it will not clear the heater box and pipes on the interior side of firewall.
Then just plug up your old hole.

Hope it helps. Smile
I chose option 3. As it was the quickest and easiest whilst still retaining factory ECU position.

i have done em b4
u can just get the plugs on the ecu

u have to undo the small bolt holding part of the loom on the side of the manifold

then u pull abit on the loom
the only prob is the ecu hangfs in bad spot

best way is to drill a hole in middle of firewall just elow heater and beware of clutch hydraulic metal line
