I was there. And believe me they f**ked up a fair few cars. Im the one with my back turned on page 2 of the telegraph next to a rex. We got defected like nothing else. They came from everywhere. There was only two runs both were the same rotary gemini v some bike and it was close.
any one else go out that way?

sounds the same was what happened a couple of times in canberra..
every one used to head out to the NSW border on the barton hwy, one time on a massive meet the coppers camy buy and blocked off the whole hwy, in both directions, and defected anyone they could!!!
6 months down the track, its in Hume, an industrial area.
the street racing dies off but always comes back strong, but the coppers seem to just come back stronger...
makes me wonder if its worth going to the races,

MMmmmm!
I reckon that racers should urge local MP's to do their bit. When the new strip at Eastern Creek is running, they should have street car meetings there every Friday night, with the usual competition type racing on weekends about every 3 weeks.
Of course it is never going to be enough for some!
I think that this would help competitors with less cars at each meeting, and less likely for people to miss out. Hopefully (dreaming?) that the price would be able to come down, making it more affordable.
This could happen - If we weren't so disliked.

at least in syd you guys actually have a drag strip...
here in canberra we are all trying to get the project up and running buy signing petitions and cruising for a cause and things...
i was thinking about it the other night..
i mean will people still street race anyways,
of course they will...
dick heads will always be dick heads
i mean if its a government owned facility, i dont even wanna think about how much its gunna cost people to run on the strip?
but i doubt they will ever get insurance for such a project..
dont get me wrong tho.. i mean.. im really hoping it all comes together.. and that the street racing level drops, but i cant see it happening in the near future,

IF we do nothing, then we get what we deserve.
There are those among us that will not even pay $10 to go and have some fun against the lights on an IHRA sanctioned strip. They woiuld rather run the street because it makes them "a rebel without a clue" or something like that.
I hope that Canberra gets it's own drag racing venue.
Insurance for these events is made possible through ANDRA, CAMS and the FIA.
If these "concerned residents" were really worried about these people hurting themselves, then maybe they would support the setting up of facilities and events where, in the event of an accident, that at least help is at hand. NOT likely, because they are not concerned about people hurting themselves, mostly it wouldn't matter what kind of fun people are having, or how safe it is - they just like to oppose whatever is going on.

thas exactly right..
i mean.. they say the only reason its not going ahead is because people are worried about the noise?
shouldnt they be more worried about a car spearing thru the front window??

There will always be idiots who streetrace, we've all been guilty of it at some time, and extra facilities will not stop a small few from holding illegal racing on the street.
However; Legal, regular and accessible off street drag meetings would certianly attract large numbers and reduce the street racing by a significant amount.
Recent experiences of eastern creek off street drags confirm that it is not coping with demand atm. Far too many cars and too expensive makes everyone leave frustrated and looking for action, vowing never to waste that cash again.
I beleive there is sufficient demand for weekly off street drags in sydney, and even separate nights for imports or v8's.
Maybe even limmit off street drags to genuine street cars , not these barely registered parachute toting time wasters that take 2 minutes to do a 200m burnout and stage.
Hopefully the promoters fo the new drag complex can put together more efficient meetings more often. And remove the need to drag on the street.
Then the cops can do whatever they want, take all the fwitts cars that want to race on public roads, cos i wont be hanging out there anymore.

Ok I just gotta say something here.
The way I see it....
there are ways and means of racing without doing it on the street,As YelloRolla said,, there are facilities(even if there are not enought of them).
I also see that the Coppers did a great job and personally like to see more of it,,
It is not just that street racing is illegal But highly dangerious as well, and not just for the racers but the general public,,,
The fact that I used to work Nights on Holbeck Rd and be faced with dodging this shit all the time I think gives me the right to say "Well done Boys in Blue... and about time"
Guy's...
If you wanna race go to the track, It doesn't cost the earth and at least then it is legal and a hell of alot safer.
Just my 2c
