If you rely on your car for transportation, undertaking a major conversion project is not a wise idea. I refuse to modify my car unless I have a backup to get me around - even if it's a seemingly minor modification! Things can and will go wrong, and then you're left high and dry. Not a good position to be in.

I was without a car for almost 3 months when I was foolish enough to let a workshop do an engine conversion for me, and that was a simple 5M->6M swap! I did exactly the same job several years later in a different car, and it took me all of 2 days in my spare time. Incredible.

wat would you guys think for labour - $2500?? Approx to put it in? Norbies right too...dont count on the workshop to do it overnight...2 weeks is a damn short time for them...And dont count on them giving it back to you without the assurance everything is running a1.

OK I have also learned that 2 weeks can actually mean 3.5 months in garage time.
Then there is a few extra weeks fiddling to get things running right.
Most garages love to have an engine conversion going on. Even better if it is really exotic. Pulls people in to have a look and potenially gets them more money.
If u really care about your car do it yourself and u will enjoy the outcome a whole lot more.
And if they say 2500 for labour then have 3500 in the bank because something WILL pop up and cost more.
Brett.

My mechanic was good about my conversion. I only had to get the money to finish bits off as my car started as a totally undrivable thing. As in, bolts in suspension only half done up, tie rod end not connected, no tailshaft etc. My car was there for 3 months, but i was expecting that. Mainly waiting on water pump and bolts for suspension. All up cost me $3000 but that was for exhausts and intercooler fittings, tailshaft, wiring and other assorted crap.
For someone like me, I could not take on an engine conversion because i don't have the tools or the knowledge of doing a hard conversion. Wouldn't mind trying a relatively easy well documented one in the future though.
So...if you are like me mechanically, then i would take it to a workshop that you know and trust and hopefully are friends with the mechanics. Remember it is not always the big fancy businesses that do good jobs, in fact sometimes it is quite the opposite.
Also, did you get the right sump configuration for your soarer? I think you would need the mid/rear sump from a jza70. My gz20 soarer needed one of them anyway.
