Engine Conversion for KE55 Tue, 02 September 2003 05:16 Go to next message
Just looking for ideas for a replacement donk for my ke55, or wondering if supercharging is the way to go.

The original engine has a had a bit of work done , cam, crankshaft, bored out, shaved head, but the engine is getting a bit tired now, wondering if it would be worth rebuilding it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

that is a nice looking corolla from the avatar Smile

how much more power do you want?

I rekon the best bang for buck conversion would probably be a 4AGZE, depending upon whether you can do the labour yourself of course. A 4age 16v or maybe even 20v may also be possabilities.

something a little easier but less powerful me be a 2tg

would this be for a road going conversion Bill?
no way in hell (short of an ICV) can you do that in NSW..... maybe QLD is a little more lax for the right ppl Wink

but, if it can go into a TA2x, surely it'd fit in the huge KE55 bay Wink

hang on, wasn't it going mid-mounted in yours????

only bill makes it possible Smile

now, back on topic for lorolla : if its a 55 them from memory there should be a 4KC in there. couple of things people have done, supercharge the K series motor, webers and a rebulid may suit.

otherwise, try a 4AGE (done heaps of times before) a 2T or 3T with added turbo, maybe even a 3SG - havent seen one of them in a 55 before...

or how about a V6 (1VZ or 2VZ i think they are) - not knowing much about what gearbox might make for an interesting idea - cheap as chips too!

Nah it's for a rally car. It probably won't be road-registered but if it is, it'll be 'rally-reg', so only be able to be driven to/from events & so on.
It'll be mid-mounted, in front of a Cosworth Sierra 4WD gearbox & Subaru WRX struts & suspension.
More on it here - http://www.billzilla.org/rallycar.htm

3SGE, 4AG(Z)E, etc, all good conversions.
7K is a cheaper one.

I reckon stick to the well trodden path of A series or T series engines. The 7K's are starting to turn up at wreckers a bit and would be an easier swap but they aren't really a "sporty" engine, but you may be able to use your old cam to spice it up a bit. As for UZ's, GG's,VZ's etc. "....tell 'em they're dreamin'"
