Water Pump or Head Gasket?

Hello,
I need to get some opinions. After ALMOST overheating one hot day. I pulled over and let the motor cool down. Before it never use to go over the 1/2 mark (Temp), now when in traffic/long periods idle or even on freeway at high RPM, the Temp now raises almost 3/4 up! Also, the side of the block is moist, but not leaking. It looks as though its sweating... No oil in coolant or water in oil. just really hot motor and alot of coolant in the coolant reserve tank until it cools down. No white smoke out the exhaust, unless cold day for one brief start it shoots a puff out, not consistent, bout once a month.
I hope the head gasket isn't blow. I hope its the water pump! Any opinions? Thanks. i already changed my upper/lower hoses and got my radiator pressure tested.
The car is an RA29 with 20R (2.2 SOHC) carbed.

Cooling systems are fun buggers to troubleshoot Pull the water pump out+check it, hose the crap out of the block, get the rad tested+cleaned, replace the thermo - a little cooling system maitenance is a wonderful, wonderful thing...

Yea, sounds like a blockage somewhere, or possibly corosion in the water pump reducing the efectivness. You'll probabnly thave to do most of what mrshin mentioned before you even find the problem. best to give it an over hual while your at it.
When refilling the cooling system, use the red toyota genuine coolant. its the best stuff for toyota engines, and better than most other stuff on the market too boot!
Craig.
