hilux and $10K

Heres the story.
We have at work a '95 (im pretty sure) Hilux that has a blown motor and is in pretty crap condition. I have proposed to the boss that we turn it into a promotional vehicle to race at street meets and so forth.
How would you spend $10K on it to make it as quick as possible down the quarter mile ?(whilst still being street registerable)
I realise its not huge budget but it doesnt need to be a full on race car just one that does some decent numbers.
I guess the biggest part is what engine do u think ?? Im thinking 13B turbo but wouldnt mind sussing out some Toyota options ..
cheers

hmm...
ok they ARE light and would respond well to a conversion
but have u actually driven a ute hard ?
im sorry but every ute ive driven has expectedly had PISS ALL traction
obviously due to the lack of weight at the rear
theres an aluminuim tray, and thats it putt weight over the rear wheels
so in regards to quarter mile times ....i think no.....traction is gonna be a hoare
however it would rock for burnouts due to this traction problem
how about mounting the engine in the tray
that would certainly be unique and sort out your traction issues
(and your bank account)
but seriously though anyone else agree with the lack of traction ?

Tony Rigoli or maybe its the other Rigoli bunch have a couple of Datto utes with 13B turbo's or SR20DET and they have no traction probs at all.
Go and twin trbo a soarer v8 motor and slap that in although the easier option would be the 1JZGTE

your right ... Traction is a big problem ..
Thats why i was thinking about the rotor option as aposed to a heavy v6 or v8 ... try and get some of the weight out of the front

There are numerous utes pulling great times with no out-of-the-ordinary traction problems, even on street tyres. Some minor suspension mods make all the difference.
If you're looking at spending big bucks to go really fast, then 13BT + microtech + big turbo is probably the way to go.
If it was me.. 1JZ/2JZ/1UZ would be the only options. With a $10k budget you'd struggle to do the 2JZ properly though.

if its gonne be a drag car then yeah all i can say is suspension suspension suspension
getting a decent drag susp setup will help alot
a rotor would be a good idea as they are F**kn tiny and light too
hence helping with your power/weight ratio
but reducing weight at the front wont neccesarily benefit traction at the rear

i want to put a lexus v8 in my hilux
i can cure the traction problem by connecting up the traction control
im goin to sit down and see what the ecu and the traction control ecu needs to get it to work
hopefully i can have a switch in the dash to turn the burnouts on and off

ummm traction control on some cars is just when traction is sensed to be lost it intiates all 4 wheels right
i remember on some Mazda's that traction control meant that it cut out 2 of the cylinders...
so i dunno where u are going with this
do u have a 4WD hilux ?

on nissan gtrs its 2wd and when u break traction it cuts into 4wd
toyota traction control has a secondary butterfly
so basically it reduces the hp output from the engine
its a shit way of doin it cause the best traction u will get it determined by yr tyres
but it would be nice to have and wont cost me much
my hilux is 2wd
