What to do! Thu, 04 September 2003 02:38 Go to next message
Hi all

My SV11 camry's 2S-E is making some terrible noises and I think it's time I looked into a new used car, or replacing the engine.

I am seriously considering buying a 3S-GE for it, and reworking the suspension, eventually ending up with a nice little sleeper. The 3S-GE would be a fair power jump to the tune of around 67%. The car only weighs in at around 1100KG's, and handles damn well considering how rooted the shocks are currently.

Basically, I have two choices. Fix my lovable camry, or buy an MR2 (maybe find a trueno.... maybe!).

What should I do?? Confused

If you want a fast car, an old Camry probably isn't the best place to start. On the other hand, I can see the attraction in having a deceptively fast Camry. If you really like the Camry and/or feel like taking on a challenge, go the engine swap. Otherwise just piss it off and get something decent to begin with, like an MR2 or a Supra.

MA70 supra's are what looks like the best choice...

Then again, i'd be spending up to $15000 on one of them, might as well go the MR2 MKII

ARGH!

$15k is definitely the upper limit for MA70's. Turbo models are starting to pop up closer to the $10k mark these days.

ma70s are heavy bastards. my preference would be for a mk2 supra (or an mr2)., then a good engine (1jz, 2jz, 7m-gte, 4a-gze/gte)

Yes the MA70's are heavy Sad But they look damn nice!

I wouldn't mind finding a nice little AW11 s/c... that'd be fun!
