Tailshaft needed between W55 & Hilux Rear Fri, 05 September 2003 01:15 Go to next message
Hi, after getting conflicting info last time, I need info off people who have actually used a hilux rear and supra box and need to know what tailshaft they used?? I have a TA22 which I have a hilux rear in and W55 Supra box and I know that others have used a hilux rear and supra box in the conversions. So please help me out. Thanx!!

A Hilux tailshaft should do the job. I have a Hilux tailshaft in my Supra and the yoke fits perfectly in my W58. The W55 has the same output shaft spline so it should work for you as well. Obviously the rear flange will be correct for a Hilux diff too. Smile

I used a Hiace tailshaft and had it lengthened. Same flange for the diff and, being a G52, it has the same yoke spline as the W5x boxes.

How much was it to get your tail-shafts modded guys? The XX one will most likely be too long once the F-series diff is in. Any ideas?

JCMF,

I'm paying $250 for custon high strength shaft. Try Veem Engineering - they're good. BUT, it'll be one piece, so I'm REALLY hoping that the diff will hang in there for a while!

JCMF,

What length is it? What's it like? I looked into the Norbie style modded Hilux shaft to mate ( Razz ) the A34X Chaser box and F series duff. Cost would have been about doule that of custom one piece.

Whoops, forgot you're running the automatic. Its a manual one that came off the parts car. It would have fitted if you're running a W58, I'm just not that keen on running a single-piece.

Can't blame ya! I still have some strong reservations about the single piece. As I said, I'm preying that the diff hangs in there for at least another coupla years. Rolling Eyes

Lengthening the tailshaft, new uni joints and balancing cost 270.

Confirming Hilux rear and W55. Hilux tail shaft fits perfectly. Just adjust length to application. Shorten it and balanced to 11000rpm cost me $70

Anyone in Brisbane wanting a custom tailshaft should speak to Gibbs Truck Parts on the Gold Coast (John is the guy you need to speak to). I had a customer single-piece made up for my car for $160+GST using the existing unis and didn't ever have a problem with it.

I also had one done for my brother's car.. Torana diff to RB20DET gearbox... cost $100+GST...

Not saying the prices will be the same now, as I also used my existing unis, yoke, etc.
