go by engine sound, or the feel of power. as soon as the power starts to drop off, it's time to change gears

that is what I usually do But sometimes if I am really distracted I would like something to remind me to perhaps back it off a little, or change gears
I know sometimes, unfortunately, I get very pre-occupied in my driving and don't notice everything immediately..

shnikeys I wasn't thinking like that! $159! aieee
Totally thanks for looking though. I SO don't want like a ricey dash-top one. Just like a little unobtrusive LED to stick with my current instruments somewhere..

just as michael has stated
Pissy easy kit to build, fully adjustable RPM settings, three stages of indication (can set up in RPM stages), and yes you can even use ultrabright LED's in place of the craptacular globes the kit comes with (just be sure to use a 510 ohm resistor in series).
I used this in my old AE92 (very cool effect with the LED's )
And i still use one in my RA28!
THey do also offer an output that can be used for rev-limiting, but that requires an extra kit.

Karl - are the sequential lights on that kit independantly settable??
hell, how do you actually set the shift point anyway?
im interested in one of these doovers - and planned on using the output of one LED to throw a relay at a given RPM (for a water injection trigger), and then the later LED to be used as an actual shift light. it would be nice to be able to roughly set when one of those first 'sequential' LEDs comes on, independant of the 'shift' LED as i dont want my water injection only coming on 200rpm before redline
cheers

ed -
it does everything you want it to do there, and more. It offers three independantly variable "shift" points which have no interrelation. They are each controlled by potentiometers, with a fourth pot to give the "trim" or overall range for the shift points. The outputs are actually 12V as well (from BC537 i think) so i should easily be able to contact a 30A "horn" type relay.
Shit if you wanted to you could have one point at 1000rpm, another at 5000rpm and another at 8000rpm (so long at the POT range would suit the spark frequency) if you so required!
