WA: Getting Engineer's Reports

Hey guys,
I'm just mucking around with the projected budget for my car. Trying to work out engineering costs. Does anybody have any experience with engineers to let me know how much it'd cost?
Basically the things they have to check are the seats, and the 1GGTEU installation as the main changes. That all I'm changing that the Transport Department (well DPI or whatever) said needed a report.
Thanks,
Nathan

JCMF,
As you'd know, this is NOT first hand experience, just what I've been told. Engineer's report will usually be a bit under $400. BUT, a couple of people suggested I budget $2,000 in case I run in to problems (ie have to make several return trips).
Did DPI ask for a report on braking and emmisions? D'ja hafta take it over a weight bridge?
Do you know what engineer you'll use? I've made tentative plans with Peter Simms & Associates Engineering. But if anyone can recommed someone else, I'm all ears.
Justin
Who made the mistake of mentioning suspension mods for improved handling of higher hp engine - they're now expecting some kinda lowrider!

I put on the Application for modifications that included anything I'd thought of, including the wheels, the 5-stud conversion and the brakes. They said I needed to see an engineer regarding the engine, the brakes and the seating.
The letter I got back from the DPI instructed me to get a consultants report for the following things:
1) Fitment and suitability of the Toyota 1GGTE in the Celica (when will they acknowledge my car) bodyshell with regards to Mass, Power and Emissions.
-From what I gather, WA doesn't really have any strict emissions regulations, so provided I'm using the factory ECU and have a catalytic converter all should be good. I think the engineer will just drive it to make sure the support systems are up to the task. He may want to get it weighed, I gave an approximate figure, probably a bit low so we'll see.
The next 2 were regarding the brakes, I spoke to the guy at the DPI afterwards and he said if you decide to not do any of the modifications thats fine, just get the engineer to inspect what you have.
I said about suspension, just newer shocks and Kings low springs (I said ~1.25" drop) and they didn't require an engineers report.
I haven't consulted an engineer yet, I've got the list of recommended ones from the DPI for when the time comes. I don't think they are as fussy with mine as they are of yours, as my engine is a variant of the factory one.

Actually,
That sounds about the same as mine. They didn't ask for a proper emissions test - just the engineers' opinion. Likewise, I need the engineer's opinion of whether the brake upgrade is up to the task. I said the same sorta thing about suspension (which I've already done ), and got a wad of paper back about minimum clearances, etc. And the form that came back had the box ticked for weight testing. Dunno why.
All considered, the DPI were pretty easy on me. Maybe cuz the letter I wrote streesed that it was a sensible 2.8 1980's SUpra motor to 2.5 1990's Supra motor ... with two turbos.

Haha, I got all the info on suspension mods, seat mods, but what I'd covered with them must've seemed within the guidelines for them to pass at pits.
I'm e-mailing an engineer currently, just getting their opinion, only two of them listed on the site had e-mail addresses. I might e-mail the DPI, see if they have a more up to date list.

JC,
Where on the site does it list the Engineers?
Simms was recommended to me. Probably good, just busy. When I rang, he was pretty casual - 'just bring it in when you're done and I'll have a look". I was kinda hoping for more of a 'you can do this but not this. Do this this way' sorta thing to make the final approval inspection easier and painless.
cheers,
Justin

considering that the engine you swapped in isnt any bigger you shouldnt have any trouble just make sure that all the door handles work seats recline and incline and move back and forwards, seat belts work and have got no frays.. no oil leaks etc..jsut the basic stuff im not sure about in terms of braking etc but if the brakes are working fine and arent too small for the application i cannot see a problem..
we got a vh commo over the pits thats what they checked for, just the basic stuff

Physically the engine is the same size, but I don't think even they are stupid enough to neglect the two huffers hanging off the exhaust manifold.

Bringing this topic up again, where bouts can I find the WA regulations on what mods are legal to your car before you need engineering. I know 25% over capacity and you need engineering, the dude at the pits was telling me it was 25% power, I was like, righteo. Cheers

alright! I can get 'speed striping' without getting it engineered!
