Changing petrol filter -> 5M-E? Sat, 06 September 2003 08:51 Go to next message
Hey All,

I know it is not rocket science but is there an easier way to get at the petrol filter then just under the car? Also, is there a trick in trying to undo the bolts on the top and bottom of the filter if they are done up too tight Mad ?

Cheers

try and hit the bolts loose with a cold chisel/ big screwdriver....it may stuff them but it works! soak them with wd40 prior to doing it.

Allan: Swaring doesn't do any justice, just makes me look like a faul mouth in the neighbourhood Laughing

V8_MA61: I would like to keep the bolts since i don't have an array of spare ones and might put a slit in the hose if i used the chisel...

Nope, The bolt is still stuck on the filters

Cheers.

Soak the damn thing in WD40 and just keep going back and trying it, thats how I eventually got the one off my 1GEU when I ripped it out.

Arent they like a standard bolt? Surely they're available? My 302 bolts (even being imperial) were available in a store..it may be your only choice to do it like that...its how i have to get my eb falcon oil filter off...stupid design, so screwdriver around its rim is the only way!
But as frank said...soak it a few times with wd40 or inox, and it may come a bit easier.

I tried breaker bar AND lots of swearing ... someone used locktight on mine Evil or Very Mad . I took it to the local garage who pulled out their super compressed air pwer wrench. Made me late for work, but at least they didn't chanrge me!

Good luck!
