James Bond + Toyota??

Just watching "You Only Live Twice" - the James Bond movie set in Japan, and have seen 007 driven around in what looks like a white 2000GT convertible. Can anyone confirm this?
The 2000GT looks like a beautiful 60's/70's sports car - has anyone seen them in Australia? Were they ever sold here?

Yep, 2000GT convertible. One of 2 built - the second one was dismantled.
Do a Google search for 2000GT - there is heaps of info on them. Certainly there are a few 2000GTs in Australia but not sure if they are imports or were actually sold here new. A total of around 850 were built. When they infrequently pop up for sale, asking prices are in the high 200K mark.
The car they dropped into the ocean was an MS41 Crown. Australia never got them in black.

200K...Ouch!
It's a shame they weren't as popular as the Datto 240/260zeds!
I saw one in Hpi magazine that was converted to a 2jz-ge auto due to the low availability of spare parts for the original twin-cam 2lt 6 cyl. Looks absolutely magic.... Pity I don't have the 200K laying around.

The owner should be killed. In this day of custom anything, such a rare car should be preserved in its original format.

My thoughts exactly. The beauty of these cars, especially now they are heading into vintage territory, is how advanced they were for their time, and how much fun they are to drive. It doesn't matter that it only put out 160Hp. You don't need a modern motor of big Hp in classic car - it ruins the appeal.
I used to drive a 260z, and I doubt it'd beat a stock 6 cyl commodore in a drag, but it was great to blast through the hills to work, feeling every bump in the road and just enjoying the drive. My Supra is verrry quick, and more user friendly, but not as fun to drive... and I kind of miss the unpowered steering feeling of really throwing the car around corners. With the noise, draughts, vibration and driving position (virtually sitting on the floor), it felt like you going a super fast at 80Kph! I don't miss the continual repairs, rust and leaks though!

a movie called cobra was on last night (one of those 'too tired to stay awake, to awake to sleep moments) and in the background was a RA29 celica...
i thought it was rather cool....

Yeah I was watching that too and my brother pointed it out. Or rather, I was playing video games with that in the background. Damn funny american bumpers. They really make the celica's look ugly.

On the topic of Toyotas in movies, has anyone else seen Back to the Future lately? (They're re-running it on Fox Channel 4 atm)..
I think it's in a scene in the 1950's (where Marty McFly pushes his future old man out of the way and gets hit by a car) that you see the tail end of what looks like an RA60 driving up the street??!
Damn - who would've thought they'd send TWO ugly eighties cars back in time in the one movie!

If anyone loves Get Smart like me you'll know he drives a few types of cars depending on the series. One is a Sunbeam Alpine one's a Sunbeam Tiger and the other that I can remember as being seriously cool looking was, I think, a 2000GT? Am I right? It kinda looked like a 240Z but much sweeter.
