Who do I take my baby to?

I have a '91 MX83 Cressida that is pissing me off with a few faults that no-one seems to be able to diagnose.
- It doesn't start very quickly. ie: it requires a lot of cranking over to fire up when left turned off for longer than 15min.
- When it is dead cold (ie: left all night in cold weather) it starts moderately well.
- When the car is cold and I cruise down my street it seems ok, when I have to accelerate on the main road the car seems to almost die. No matter how much I push the accelerator it doesn't respond until bang it realises what I want and goes. I get annoyed because people behind me for the 5 or so seconds it takes to respond almost miss the lights and glare at me like I'm a fool.
- Also, it only does about 6.5km per litre in the city.
I've replaced the Oxygen sensor, replaced the injectors, the platinum plugs are only 5000kms old, the fuel system has had a carbon clean the fuel pump has been checked (I think) and the fuel rail is holding pressure when turned off. I am sick of spending money for nothing. The problems are still there after about a grand and a bit.
The little orange engine warning light has just come on again after a long drive and I want to take it to a person who knows the most about Toyotas, if possible specifically Cressidas. I live in East Brighton, Melbourne. Where do I go???

pull the dizzy cap off and see if it is full of oil, if not pull the rotor button off and see if it is fried like a KFC chook.
also do a diagnosis and see what error codes the engine check light is flashing at u.

Thanks Rob, I don't know much about fixing my own car engine so I was really looking for some suggestions on who would have the most Toyota experience. I'll try what you suggested but to diagnose the error I need to take it somewhere? I don't know the codes.
Also, I forgot to add, I had a new head gasket fitted about 5000kms ago. The startup problem is not related to compression leak because it was subsequently tested when that was suspected.
Simon.

When you replaced the injectors, did you also replace the pre strainer and fuel filters, sounds like the injectors are still leaking fuel?

When I replaced the injectors I got some dude from Tyrepower to do it. They say that they're getting into mechanical repairs now so they have hired mechanics, one of which is experienced in fuel systems. I don't know exactly what they did. However they said that they checked the filters and were fine. The injectors were reconditioned ones that have a warranty (replaced about a month ago).
I drove the car to uni this morning and the light is not on anymore. Does this mean I can still find out why it was on??

um, ..., how do you check a steel canister filter??? Most professional repair shops won't warranty a job like this without replacing the fuel filters, for fear of introducing dirt into the new injectors, I suggest you go elsewhere to have them checked again?
My Celica was also hard to start, turned out to be leaking injectors, did the job properly and now it works perfectly.

Yeah I thought it was wierd that they didn't just replace the filter as standard procedure. The guy I've been dealing with at Tyrepower is trying to do the work as affordably as possible that's why I've been doing cheap things first. I think the Oxygen sensor was second hand that he put on.
I can't afford to leave it with someone who's going to spend ages diagnosing the problem incorrectly and cost me a fortune in labour. We figured that a better move is to look at the most likely cause, replace it and see if the problem dissappears. It got up to the point where I replaced the 6 injectors for $600 and dammit it's still not fixed. I feel like a dunce because I don't know shit about engines and I am suspecting I'm going to the wrong person.
I originally took it to Toyota Service Centre and they told me "Mate, it's an old car. What do you expect from a 1991 model? It's going to have problems..." BULLSHIT! I haven't been back. Another place said "we'll need to take the head off and look inside, it'll cost about $1100+" Huh? I need to find a competent affordable mechanic that I can trust. The guys at Tyrepower seem trustworthy but I am starting to question their competence.

Yes... The data can still be accessed even though the light is now off... BUT, if the battery is disconnected, the ECU loses it's temporary memory and fault codes...

yeah, I've had a few bad experiences with toyota mechanics...
I took my ra65 celica, which went through 1 litre of oil every 750 kms, to them and told them the problem. loads of smoke under load, etc etc.
got it back 2 days later, with a $170 bill for an oil change, and told "it works fine mate, no smoke"
on the journey home... smoke smoke smoke.

Anyone know where I could find out what the flashes correspond to? That is, a list of fault codes for MX83's.

Thanks guys, I checked the fault code that was logged. Code 21... "Detected deterioration of Oxygen Sensor". I knew I shouldn't have replaced it with a second hand one. It worked when I put it in.
The light only comes on when I cruise at a constant speed like on a freeway. I would have thought the error was a mixture problem (ie: lean or rich) Do fault codes lie?? Might the Oxygen Sensor be fine??

when your O2 sensor is boned, the ecu will tend to enrich the mixture, to prevent engine damage. A mate had a similar problem in his supra. screwed exhaust temp sensor, so the ecu runs rich to avoid engine damage

The light coming on on the freeway is probably cos the computer is trying to go into closed loop and the O2 sensor is faulty.
