1G -> SA63 Mon, 08 September 2003 12:43 Go to next message
hey i was thinking of putting a 1G engine in my car. just wondering what the power differences are between the GTE and GE, which would be better, what to look out for in the engines etc. any help at all will be appreciated although i'm sure this would have come up numerous times.

if you're ghonna do the swap, do the turbo swap, as the rest of the costs are much of a muchness... and going to all that effort you'd want good power for your troubles Smile

oh, between 185 and 210 bhp for the turbo version as well.

half cuts can be had from around $2k. conversion... doing it yourself or paying someone to do it? there's a thread around on a 1jz conversion ... doing it yourself you'd be looking at around $5k. ask max ... he's done it and could give you more acurate prices

OK, here goes:

1G-GE: 114kW
1G-GTE: 157kW (less if earlier generation)

If I was to do all the work myself, I could prolly do a 1G swap for about $4k all up. If you're getting a shop to do it, I'd say about $7k-$8k would be about the right money.

What you need to do are:
Arrow Change radiator outlet (bigger radiator would be a good option too)
Arrow Put in EFI fuel lines
Arrow RA65 fuel tank
Arrow Engine mounts
Arrow New front swaybar
Arrow Wiring
Arrow Exhaust
Arrow Battery relocation
Arrow Miscellaneum: Timing belt, oil, oil filter, etc

You will also have to find a front sump unless you want to figure out how to make the mid-rear sump fit.

1G-GTE half cuts are around the $2.5k mark these days I think. Make sure you get a Gen3 if you get the turbo.

Also, get an RA6x crossmember and chop it up. Save the SA63 crossmember, sump, and oil pickup for someone who wants to do a 3S conversion... You could get some money back by selling that stuff. Smile
