Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone has experience with full comp. insurance for the imported MKIII Turbo (Turbo A preferably). I am looking to import one in a few months but am trying to organise the insurance coverage first. I know there are previous threads but I am after MKIII specific if possible. BTW, i am 20y.o., Male in Sydney.
Thx guys,
Russ.

Thx Draven.
Yeah i did an online quote with Just Cars. Was just over $3200p.a. I guess this is what I am going to have to pay if i want full comp. Just seems ridiculous that for a car only insured for $9000, they ask over $3K a year.
Anyone else had other (perhaps more promising) experiences?

dude
you're a 20yo. so probably still on your P's, or just off them.
stick that little driving experience into a ~300hp car, and the insurance company is basically saying "we think in 3 years you'll have done $9k worth of damage to your car and other people's cars".
cant blame them really

I understand the way it works. Just wondering if anybody had experience with cheaper quotes - that's all. I have been off my P's for over 2 years and have been insured for nearly 3.
Just after some help is all. I can accept the premium if that is all that is available.

there is one other company I've heard good things about. they have a whole heap of rules (cant park on the street between certain hours, car must be garaged, etc etc).. but apparently fairly cheap.
someone will provide the name I'm sure

do you mean
www.youngandcool.com
in which case, i wouldn't bother, you need to do advanced driving course etc, plus excess is pretty ridiculous
my advice would be just go 3rd party and take it easy
especially if you plan to modify because price will just go up
shannons is worth a try as well btw
depends on which state you in though to a large extent

I wouldnt bother with Just Cars dude. I got a quote from them for my ma70 7mgte. I am 22 in Sydney and they quoted me $4750 for a $10k car. Not nice. If I was you I would seriously just look at getting a top notch alarm system, and get 3rd party property ($570 for me from Just Car). If you drive carefully, you should never need comprehensive anyway.

Thx for the replies
Caledwvech, I understand your thinking but I have an anecdote that makes comp. insurance attractive. I was in an accident where my car was written off. However, the police could not determine who was at fault. So without the insurance I would be out of pocket 8500 dollars; and not through any fault of my own. Although thx for your info as it is very relevant.

here's what my conversation would go like with nrma
me: Hi, I'm interesting in getting a quote for comprehensive insurance on my car
Them: Certainly, what sort of car is it?
me: it's a 1984 Toyota supra.
Them: A supra?
me: yes
them: oh, I see it. 2.8 litre fuel injected
me: well, it used to be
Them: excuse me sir?
me: I changed the engine
Them: oh, I see.
[uncomfortable pause]
Them: I'll have to ask my supervisor about that. what sort of engine is it?
me: it's a 2.5 litre twin turbo
Them: turbo? is that like supercharged?
me: Sort of.
[they wander off to their manager]
Them: I'm sorry sir, but we don't cater to that type of vehicle. We prefer to cater to the masses, ignore the individual, and still advertise that each customer is important to us. and if you're going to crash on your way home, try and make sure it's not an nrma insured car. have a nice day, hope we never hear from you again
