Windows Calculator can do all of those conversions for you. It has shipped with every version of Windows since 3.0, and probably earlier. Just chuck it into "scientific" mode and you'll be set. Smile

Re: electrical info Tue, 09 September 2003 12:59 Go to previous messageGo to next message
heres my lame explanation
octal is base 8 (obviously). goes 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,21.......a nd so on.

take 16 for example.

in decimal the 1 is 10 and the 6 is 6. 10+6=16

in octal the 1 is 8 and the 6 is 6. 8+6=14
simple Cool

now take 25 for example.
the 2 means 16 (two lots of eight) and the 5 means 5. 16+5=21
simple Cool

questions class?? Very Happy

1 - Convert each digit into binary (3 bits for octal, 4 bits for hexadecimal)
2 - String all the binary bits together
3 - Convert the binary to decimal

ie

74(octal)

Step 1
7 = 111
4 = 100

Step 2
74(octal) = 111100 Binary

Step 3
111100(bin) = 60(dec) (32+16+8+4+0+0)

step 4 - Verify in windows calulator to make sure i am not rambling! (it does work, really!!)

since when do we start talking in a foreign lancuage here people? Confused jks Laughing

I have a question dave i asked a guy how much to install central locking/power windows in my corona, he said i dont touch anything before 1980 it fcks the motors, i beg to differ as corona/cressida are the same sort of cars (in a really small way) is there any changeability or can a aftermarket kit suite my needs?

cool1... im a dc technician and i know nothing about computers, sorry if i have misled you...

coronamark2...the guy is correct to a certain extent...

the motors will burn out if your windows or door locks are "sticky"

you can actually buy a stronger central locking kit that can supply up to 6 foot pounds of pressure to any given locking component...

and as for the power windows, i would have to take a look at your door layout and compare it to that of the cressida but if they dont look similar its no good...

ive got a mate who can supply an aftermarket kit and fit it for that matter if thats what you wanted...

the bad news is that strathfield doesnt sell either of them so if you want i can get you a price... just let me know...

incase you were interested where you can get these things...
central kit... j-b hifi, i think about 70 bucks...
and if your keen on driving to a little place at brookvale called advanced car audio and lighting they can get you the power window kit...

i hope ive been of some help
dave
