what the hell is a compression plate? One of my friends said that he wants to get a supercharger for his car but would need a compression plate so his engine doesnt blow. None of my friends have a clue what he is talking about either and this leads me to believe that neither does he. He usually just talks out of his ass to make himself sound smarter and wont admit it when u actually look something up and prove him wrong lol, u know the type of person im talking about. Is this just another one of those instances?

if I had to take a guess, it'd be a spacer between the block and the head to drop compression, do you could (reliably) run FI on an NA car.

Its usually called a de-compression plate, so you can make some ground back there Wink

Its probably one of the dodgiest ways, but its been done numerous times before successfully.

ok, without looking like im offesively shutting anyone down Rolling Eyes ....

decompression plates are the most god awful idea for trying to reduce detonation in a DIY forced induction engine (despite eveyone selling them)...

one of the single most important factors in detonation prevention and proper combustion, is adequate squish clearance - ie the space b/w your piston and the head. the closer, the better (like down to 0.030")

decompression plates actually expand the squish clearance. so despite lowering your static compresison ratio, it will actually PROMOTE detonation through improper combustion tolerances. BAD!!

bad bad bad

cheers

...plus, unless you o-ring both sides of the plate and the head/block, AND use copper gaskets you're probably going to blow the head gaskets out before reaching an exciting level of boost.

and even if you've got to all this expence (of o-ringing) you've then lifted the head up higher than expected so the cam chain may not have the links in the right spot for the cam gears (and no this is not why there's a cam chain tensioner)...

...and doubled the likely number of places where the head gasket will leak/fail.

but wait there's more ... even if you o-ringed the motor/head/plate - you're not going to get the same tension on the head bolts (as you've got the squish of two gaskets) so you'll either snap or strip the thread on a head stud/bolt overtightening it or not do it up tight enough (and then para three happens)

Unless you want to keep boost to sub 5psi, dump the plate and tell your mate he's a tosser.
