MAP & AFM, a lil confused..... Wed, 10 September 2003 03:18 Go to next message
Ah hm ok...
AFM & MAPS.. I know a little about them, bu tnot how they are integrated and work with the rest of the engine.
I have a 4agze, but can't seem to see or work out if it has or was MAP or AFM, anyway to tell, I think this one came out of AW11.
And anyways, are they interchangeable? As is you had a AFM one, could you just do away with the AFM and connect a MAP????
Or vice versa....?

An airflow meter is usually a black box with wires sticking out of it connected to your inlet plumbing, usually integrated into the airbox. It should be fairly obvious if you have one. No you cannot directly swap an AFM for a MAP sensor.

A motor that was originally operated by a map sensed efi system can run on a AFM efi system but you cannot put a MAP sensor on a AFM efi system or visa versa , To tell what efi system the motor was originally run with is to see if the plenum has a air temp sensor in it if it has that means it was run with MAP as the air temp sensor in the AFM system has the air temp sensor built into the AFM .
