Battery in boot/battery acid 'powder' all over boot in TA22

Hi Everybody,
I have a bit of a problem. I have my battery in the boot of my TA22. I have noticed over the last year or so that there is a lot of corrosion/battery acid dust building up in the boot (or at least what looks like acid dust). There has been so much corrosion that it ate through one of the bolts that held my battery box in. With the amount of dust that is in the boot you would expect that the battery was spewing acid everywhere but in the whole time that i have had it there i have only had to top it up once. What is going on? It has lifted the paint on the floor and exposed bare metal. Is it possible that my earths trap shouldn't be bolted to the boot floor and that it is reacting somehow?
HELP please
Thanks

I'd say it is some sort of residual current causing it, does the battery run low or flat at all? The electrolyte level in the battery only needs to cover the plates any more and they can froth and through acid out the vents too.

Get a multimeter and measure the voltage between the negitive terminal of the battery and the body of the car in the boot where the paint has flaked off.

Also the best way to clean out the boot as before it rusts away is to mix up a bucket of hot water with a half a cup of baking powder and pour or spray it all through the boot then wash out with fresh water , the baking powder will neutralize the acid .

Mate, good to see you're still alive
No the battery never runs flat. I have also never noticed any sort of frothing out of the caps either. I have noticed lately that the charge lamp has been dimly lit while the engine has been running. Could that have something to do with it?
When you free to catch up Clint?

If you measure any voltage this is bad! It means your earthing needs fixing.

hence why they dont use those batteries for boot setups
there are these special GEL type batteries for boot setups
more expensive but worth it

Better yet get a sealed box and vent it outside the car!
Seal around the bolts and use stainless ones.
