89-91 camry engine conversions! Wed, 10 September 2003 22:49 Go to next message
Hey,
I am thinking of ditching my 79' corolla plans ( Crying or Very Sad ) and get my-self a 89-91 camry sedan. My corolla is starting to cost me to much to run! Mad
So I wanna know what engines will fit in a camry? Any Turbo engines? or Supercharged? Very Happy

The engine/transmission is much the same as FWD Celica's, so it's possible to chuck in a 3S-GTE from a GT4 if that's your thing. You could probably also have a bit of fun with V6's if you're a little more adventurous... one of those late-model all-alloy jobbies would be a hoot!

i would say put in the 3s-gte if you are buying the 3s-fe camry. the mounts are the same, but i beleive there may be some troubles with the wiring loom.

I guess it depends on how quick you want it to be. I think just putting a 3S-GE in there would probably get it going plenty fast enough. The more recent ones have 140 odd kW and for a car weighing (at a guess) 1100kgs that should give a pretyt good power to weight ratio. I'd think it would also be easier to install because you wouldn't ahve to worry about all the turbo piping etc.

what the sv21 loses in power can be gained in traction and handling, get some sports suspension and good tyres and you can have no trouble beating v6 commies off the line, and kick their butt in the twisties

oh yeah the fuel consumption kicks ass too!

plus there's plenty of room in the boot for a sub or four...

I'll vouch for the handling. Mine handles better than my mums n14 Pulsar SSS even though its just a set of basic king springs.

PS Mines for sale if ure interested. http://toycam.8m.com/
