Yeah, I haven't heard too much about turboing an 18R-GU with twin carbs. I have to choose, air con or turbo.

Yeah it's been done in the past with plenty of success, although it's less common these days since jap import turbo engines are so cheap and easy to get. 18R-GEU's are ideal for turbocharging because of their low compression ratio (8.3:1) and of course the EFI makes it a whole lot easier. I'm actually going to turbo my 18R-GEU as soon as I get around to rebuilding it; I've got the turbo and manifold ready to go. Actually I've had all the required parts for a turbo 18R-GEU for over 5 years... damn I'm a lazy bastard.

I cant see any reason why you cant have a turbo and aircon!

erm... mani you got it backwards!
18R-G (88210-88230) = 140HP
18R-GU (88250-88253) = 120-130HP
18R-GEU (88270) - 120/130HP (varies depending on source)
18R-GTE = how deep is your pocket?

200hp without even trying, or 300hp with a bit of work. Justen Simpson got 300hp out of his and it was internally stock apart from forged pistons.

300hp...geeze, that would fly in a 1st Generation Celica. Anyone care to part with their set up? *Looks at Norbie*

Norbie,
What exactly do you have to create an 18R-GTE, I'm assuming that you have picked up custom parts over time or did you find a HKS setup?
I'm starting to research turbo'ing an 18r (and for that matter supercharging) and comparing that to doing a 1G conversion but thats another thread for the future.
I'll be watching this thread with intrest.
Cheers

I actually picked up Justen Simpson's old setup... series 5 13B turbo and a home-made manifold. It actually looks pretty dodgy but apparently it was quite effective. I picked up the whole lot for $300 (over 5 years ago) so no complaints here!

just ask Kristian from Jap imports (on the forsale classifieds) he says he can find whatever you want in japan, if HKS made it, he can find it (and you can pay for it).
It might be worth a quote.
