Again for those that have missed me saying this almost for the 50th time.... (being silly here!)
4A-GZE 8.9:1 factory forged & ceramic coated pistons as used in the latest model 4A-GZE engine are available from TOYOTA for a megre cost of ~$400!!
They are also available in slightly overbore sizes.
For part no.s, search the FAQ section of www.twincam.org

( Rocket ) sell forged pistons for the 4AGZE , 3SGTE and 7MGTE also you can give ( Precision engine parts )a call as they also make forged pistons.
I just bought a set of 3SGTE pistons from TOYOTA for $372.00 .

Yeah, I just got some new 4A-GZE pistons from Castle Hill Toyota, I ended up paying just $340 for the set.
Part no. 13103-16131
But that's for .020", or 0.50mm as Toyota so rightly put it, oversize pistons.

And ceramic coated. Looking at my new ones (I'll put up some pics eventually) they look like they have 2 types of ceramic coating, there's a dark coat on the crown of the piston, which comes down over the first ring land, then there's a shiny section of uncoated piston just over the second piston ring gap, then from the second ring land down it looks to be coated in a light grey coating. So there's 3 diferent colours, dark grey coated, shiny uncoated metal & then light grey coated.
Just out of interest.....

Is that part number for 8:1 or 8.9:1 compression pistons?

from what i understand yes, they should be interchangable.
wondering how much PSI people are running with the 8.9:1 comp pistons....thats fairly high comp when you think about for turbocharging...

bugger. I'm still trying to find the part number for the 8.0:1 pistons.
I run the 8.9:1 GZE pistons at the moment, with 20psi of boost. I would like to build an engine with the lower compression to try and squeeze some more timing into it.
Cheers

Yeah 8.9 is bulk compression for a forced induction motor but it seems to hold together from what ive heard.
TE72_Turbo: How does it go with 20psi? Im going to be changing to map gze motor real soon with a hksgt2530 hopefully whacked on it with about 20psi.. hope itll hold together.

It'll hold together no worries, despite having high compression, the GE/GZE's seem to have a really good combustion chamber design in the head, which is not prone to detonation. Mine happily has 18 degrees of timing at 20psi (normal 98 octane pump fuel). Try doing that to a T series engine with compression only in the 7's, and it will detonate its head off due to their inferior head design.
I'd still like the 8.0:1 pistons to squeeze some more out of it though, hence searching for the part #
BTW: Where did you get your HKS turbo? Was it new? They are hell expensive to purchase, i've been looking at one to upgrade lately

Hey dude, had a look in the EPC. The AW11 with 4AGZE had 8.0:1 right?
13101-16060 is the original part number, and this appears to be substituted with 13101-16100.
This last part number appears to come in standard and oversize 0.5mm. The part #'s appear to be the same for the standard and oversize which is weird.
Hope that helps.

You could always just get a 2mm HKS metal head gasket which drops the compression to ~8.1:1 or 1.6mm Hks gasket takes it to ~8.5 which is what ill probably do... although its up to you

I'm not sure but i don't think any old toyota dealer will sell stuff for the 4AGZE as it was never available here, i.e. they are all jap imports.
I think you will find that Castle Hill Toyota is a rare exception. They seem not to have any problem with imports and do a great job supporting them, hence they get our buisness why don't the other dealers catch on. They also carry real TRD stuff.

Pretty much any Toyota dealer will get and be able to get import parts for you. They just won't be very helpful in most cases.

sorry for the 2nd incarnation of this old post, buy the castle hill number is in whitepages.com.au, and the guy to speak to is James.. there about $96 or $92 each incl GST (sorry i should have paid more attention..) for 13103-16131..all the guys in brisbane want $102.55 incl GST each, seems less hassle to me to just get them up here in brissy..the extra $$ is simply shipping from NSW where they would be getting them from..
ohh and alot of them asked me how i knew the part number, and i mentioned something about the EPC, they were shocked and disgraced about this info 'leaking' out to the public..weird hey...

depending on how high a HP gte you want the 9.4:1 casties and a thicker head gasket work fine.

but if you are rebuilding, why wouldnt you spend the meagre $400 if you were replacing pistons?
At the moment i'm a broke tightarse and cant afford a set, so my 4agte is going to have the stock 10.5:1 pistons...

What EMS should i use for a 4AGTE setup.
So far ive aquired:
Supra TT fuel pump
4 Supra Injectors
planning on dropping in gze pistons and rods into my 4AGE20valve(Blacktop)

thats what i like to hear, high comp and boost. more torque, better fuel economy and if tuned right i have read a fair whack of HP can be acheived.
i wonder if stewart (old carolla's dude) is able to determin piston strength? he did a good job with the gze pistons with their build.
after talking with one of the mechanics that deal through work, he rekons what i did useing higher c/r cast pistons and then lowering the c/r they are a stronger than forged pistons? being more brittle or something than forged pistons?

yeah i remember having a long in-depth discussion with stew about different piston strengths and why forged pistons are used.
This is a rough *from memory*....
... a cast piston is generally better in most properties, but they are brittle and inflexible or something, meaning that they can't handle detonation conditions etc and survive - whereas a forged piston can.
Forged pistons have worse qualities as far as expansion and heat effects are concerned, but they will survive detonation and other undesirable (un-intended) conditions when a cast piston would not.
Of course i could be waaaay off the mark. Here is a thread with a good discussion of the whole thing. Be warned, there is a lot of other bullshit going on there too
