I came across one at work the other day. Had a Skyline come in with what appeared to be an RB30 turbo. Pulled the front off to do the timing belt only to find the the supplied belt was too long. Checked the Dayco book and the part number was right for the RB30. Both the crank and cam pulleys looked standard. After a bit of running around trying to find a belt, it came to me that maybe someone had put an RB30 head on a different RB block. Anyway, checked the engine number and yep it was an RB20 block.
Turns out that there was a single cam RB20 turbo in old jap skylines and they share a fair few parts with the RB30. Hence why it looked exactly like one. Anyone seen one before?

geez? was the whole car an import, or was it an engine conversion?
i think the single cam RB20 turbos came out in the 4 door skyline GT Passage. Theres a silver one around here in canberra, but i cant remember what the head looked like under the bonnet, I dont remember it being like an RB30 head though...might be wrong, it was dark under a shitty streetlight.
so could you source the right belt? cause the RB20 block is considerably shorter from top to bottom than the RB30's, as you obviously found.
interesting to see something out of the ordinary.
Cheers Phil

Yeah it was a conversion into one of those old 2.4 Skylines. Nissan said 3 weeks ex japan, customer pays $100 freight plus $60 for the belt.
