Can anyone tell me what type of diff ratios these cars came out with?I have 3.9 in mine but combined with the V8 and 5 speed this is realy unsuitable.I`m only using 2nd,4th and 5th!!I`d idealy like something around 3.1 but i doubt that ratio was ever available.....What are my options here as i realy don`t want to do a diff conversion (love the IRS).

I think some RA65 Celicas came with taller ratios, and they have an F series diff so the ring and pinion is interchangeable. Might be worth a quick look around a few wrecking yards?

I think the autos came with a 3.7:1, but that's about it.

What gearbox did you Supra guys get? W58? I have a 3.9 diff with W55 in my ra65, a shorter overall combo than US celicas got. Not sure what diff the W58 equipt celis got.
Go to a few yards and look up the diff code stamped under the bonnet.

The manual's had 3.9:1 and the auto's had 4.1:1
If you go to an RA65 diff, you'd lose your LSD right? If you really want a slightly lower one, you can try finding a centre from manual import, as they had 3.7:1
Whats the redline on that engine? Sounds as bad as my mates V8 Landcruiser!

You can take the ring and pinion from an open centre and put it in an LSD centre, so you get the taller ratio but keep the LSD functionality.

Done some ringing around today and apparently 3.7 is the tallest available.I can`t see it making any difference really(opinions?)....think i might be up the creek on this one!!

Ive heard of some of the US Mk2 guys with 7MGTE conversions changing their rear end ratios to 3.5 and 3.42, or there abouts Look up a guy called Ophir Ronin and ask him, and/or check the archives on the mk2 supra mailing list (mk2)
cheers

suprav8, i'm assuming that you are running a w55/57 type gearbox? if so, fit the 3.7:1 diff, and get a w58 - (basically a w57 with the taller 0.78 5th gear) that should solve your problem

Probably a W58 anyway, if he's got the 3.9 diff its from a manual Aus Supra which means it would have already have a 58.
