Yeah, just hurry up & put the 7M in.
Then you might actually be able to keep up with my 4 cylinger turbo diesel.
That's right, for the rest of you that didn't know, this car has a 2L turbo diesel engine.
Not the best for standing start drags, but rolling starts its pretty good against most NA, and just don't be in front around a corner or I'll have a new grill badge!

Had petrol 1.5L 5E-FE, 1.8L 7A-FE, 2.0L 3S-FE & 3S-GE,
Diesel 2.0L 2C & 2C-T.
The 3S-GTE only came out in the next model after mine, when the production of the GT4 stopped, the diesel became 2.2L 3C-TE (auto only ), but the other engines kept going until the current model.

It will live again.
Got word from the Panel Beater that the insurer won't be writing off the car.
Main reason was that the wreck is pretty much worthless to anyone else, plus that main structure is still square.

I checked this one out on Sunday, very smooth dude, love the wagons . Your new headlights look very similar to AE102 Corolla items, do you know if they will fit?

I don't think so.
That kit was specifically for the european Carina E, with the fittings for the Carina E grill & parkers.
The originally lights have that Toyota look form the Corolla & Camry, but with the slight differences.
Dunno how hard it would be to get something custom made up.
Find an old KE TX3 Laser & modify that to fit I think would be the go. Just need a bit of fibreglass work

The front end looks great on that Caldina Steve. Have you decided what you're doing with your pizza-sized ST205 rotors?

I now have DBA rotors on the front.
If you check out the brake upgrade link, you'll see there were issues with fitting the "full width" discs back on which I only sorted out last night (with an angle grinder )
The car won't be at the meeting due to it not being currently registered.
Something to do with a broken parker & not passing a pink slip...

wagonist, My 190 is exactly the same as the one pictured on that site except I don't have the bumper lights/foglights, only indicators - my parkers are located beside my headlight.
I sourced those crystalized headlights from the Philippines for roughly around AU$350-450 (a pair). Is that a good price? I won't bother asking Toyota due to their high mark-ups.
Also, are there alot of 190 people around here?

sounds like a good price to me.
Is that your car in the pic?
if so, where did you get the matching parkers from?
I was half thinking about those seeing as I had to replace both parkers as well (& now another one )
I'm looking for a bodykit for future fitting, but only found one in Japan I liked.
There aren't any other 190's in the club, dunno bout on the forum tho.
Not that many were sold in Sydney, too expensive compared with Qld & not enough markup for the dealers compared with Silvias, etc.

nah, that's not my car in the pic. Mine's running stock headlights & parkers. I'm interested in getting those crystalized headlights though, that's why I asked here...
The $350-450 price includes the matching parkers as well.
I've seen a few bodykits for the 190. IMO, I like the TOM's one. Also, would you happen to know where I can source some sway bars?

Definitely worth the price then, where were you 6 months ago?
You'll probably have to get custom sway bars.
Do you already have a rear one?
I only know Sydney places, which would mean getting your car here to measure up, then make it & fit it.
Only a day though.
TOM's don't worry bout the wagons tho, which is where the Jap market is at.

Haha yeah... there's quite a few people in the Philippines with st190 Corona's and I'm planning to make a visit to get a few stuff for my 190. I only registered recently to find/compare prices for some parts I'm looking after...
Atm, I don't have any sway bars on the car. Everything's bone stock, but not for long . I've only changed chrome-stock front grill to the st191 (i think) grill.

No, I mean does it have a factory one on the back, coz mine didn't have one at all, even from Toyota.
Caused quite a few dramas resulting in me not letting one place work on my car anymore.

That's strange, I thought they all had them til 96.
Are you able to get me a pic of your rear suspension? I'll be able to tell you then.
If you don't have one, the best bet would be to get some 2nd hand rear struts with the sway bar mounts already fitted. They're a bugger to weld on later.
The mounts in the chassis are already there.
Try Allstate Autos at Geebung, they bring 190 series spares.

You do have a factory rear sway bar.
There is a bracket facing backwards off the rear strut just below where the springs sits.
The swaybar is fixed to that. You can follow that across the car to the other side.

I've got
Koni adjustable inserts
custom 2" lowered springs which need to be replaced coz they've sagged. (turbocaldina is using some Kings springs. apparently the early wide body camry ones are the same, but his caldina is 4wd)
custom 18mm adjustable rear sway bar (not stiff enough for my driving style though), will be upgrading to 22mm
standard front swaybar (will be replaced when funds allow)
17" wheels with 215/45R17 tyres
To get it to handle properly, you will have to replace everything. Just prioritise & budget & do it in bits.
First thing I did was ditch the 14" wheels & this made a huge difference on its own.
Then I did the struts & springs, but this was out of necessity coz my standard stuff was shagged.

So far, I'm planning to get some front strut tower bars, hoping this would improve handling abit. But as you said before, I might need to get them custom made.
Then get some 17" wheels + change shocks & springs and get the car running 2-2.5" lower.
BTW, are you familiar with the 4S-FE engine? I heard it was quite similar to the 3SFE, would you happen to know the pros/cons for each?

I know sweet stuff all of nothing about those engines, except that it's a 1.8L not 2L.
Personally, I wouldn't worry about the strut braces till you've done everything else.
I don't have one, but mainly because I've been thinking of changing engine & don't want to buy one now & then find it doesn't fit.

Nah, start your own thread now. It'll show what is looks like stock.
I was trying to find pix of how my car was when I bought it, but they were lost when my puter crashed a while ago.
My car is REGISTERED AGAIN.
Brakes are doing well. Anyone know if a G-tech will work in reverse, ie checking braking distances?
Thanks must go to Al Palmer who manged to get me 2 NEW parkers for my car for bout the same price as Castle Hill Toyota would charge me for one. ($70ea + postage instead of approx $180 )
Seems like there's a LOT of mark up with having to go through the Toyota system here.
