where can i get dash converters? Fri, 12 September 2003 12:48 Go to next message
Ok i want to try and keep my ma61 supra dash as standard as possible.
I know i have to add an oil pressure gauge somewhere.

However. I want to use the toyota tacho and temp gauge. Does someone make a converter for a v8 to i6 tacho reading? Anyone know how i can make my temp gauge work with a signal from the ford thermostat? And does someone know how i can get a rev limiter to work on my car?
Thanks
Blake.

Just use a Toyota temperature sensor; drill and tap a hole with the appropriate thread in the thermostat housing of your engine. Easy.

As for the tacho thing, I'm sure there must be some way to do it - there are a few people here who have put sixes into Celica's, and I'm sure they aren't all driving around without a tacho!

i thought they usually just put in monster tachos? That is what most of the people i know have got now.

Not me though, 1jz wires up to stock Chaser tacho in the Corona! Smile

I hate those big tachos and temp gauges with a passion! Norbie where (what toyota) can i get one of these temperature sending units from?
Would any work in conjunction with the ma61 electronic Dash, or Does it have to be an older car..???
plus to make it more difficult im running the thermo fans by a thermo controller!

Any Toyota temp sensor will do the job; they all do the same thing, so Toyota never bothered changing them!

You can use your 5me temp sensor, all you need is to buy a adapter to screw into your V8(which is available).....I don`t trust factory guages and considering windsor`s love to overheat maybe you should go for a small aftermarket guage.......i have a temp and oil guage just above my cd player and it doesn`t look "out of place".....just a suggestion.
As for the tacho i can see no reason why the factory one can`t be used but it will take a electronic guru to sort it out(be well worth it though).........i`m still trying to get mine to work Smile

im not gonna argue, but windsors are no worse than other v8s for overheating. Yeah i dont care about changing the tacho $ wise...will end up cheaper than a decent vdo one anyway. toyota tachos - They dont have any warnings or anything do they when you get into the old toyota red line?

from past experience i think the thread on yr 5m temp sensor is the large thread type

and from looking at the temp sensor on the 1uz it has a small thread

im not 100% sure but its just from hwat i remember seeing

1uz has similar type of sensor as a 4ag20v think its 1/4bsp
and i think the 5m is but double the size

not to sure if u can drill and tap the 1uz
the temp sender is in a prick of a spot under the top front cover near the coil

come to think of it, no im not gonna risk using a toyota sensor alone, am going to use a ford one with a gauge in my dash somewhere. Ive spent too much money to risk using a wrong type of sensor

I can't see a problem with using the Toyota water sensor (all it does is measure the water temp, it doesn't give a hoot about what motor it is!), but I guess if your paranoid it would be a good move to setup another temp gauge until you are sure that the dash one is working correctly. Smile
