icon5.gif  Cosmetic mods for my ST162 Sat, 13 September 2003 04:35 Go to next message
I've been wanting to make a few cosmetic mods to my ST162 (see my other thread).

The last thing I want is a rice box, so I'm after a simple, more aggressive, but classy look.

I don't have much cash to spend, so I've come up with a few inexpensive ideas and brought them to life thanks to a quick bit of photoshop.

Here's my car as it is now:

Here it is with some new rims and lowered a bit:

Now with the skirts painted:

..and finally with tinted windows and a black strip:

What do you think? Got any other ideas or comments?

Cheers guys! Very Happy

I really like the final design too! The black stripe really serves to separate the white, but I really like it with the white stripe too! (which is what you have now)

If I was you, I would just do it with the white stripe (much easier than changing it!) and it will look sweet as.. Smile

Thanks for the feedback guys!
I think I prefer the black stripe, but I'm going to have to look into how hard it will be to remove and paint before I decide.

I just got back from seeing Soilwork (a Swedish metal band) and I am so deaf. All I can hear is this high pitched nnnniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. Great. Confused

Anyway, do you guys have any other suggestions or ideas? Do you like the mags or do you think there are other that would look better?

Cheers!

This is only my opinion but..

Get slightly wider-spoked wheels (like a 5 spoke)
Get white wheels (not silver) - like the ones you see on yellow skylines occasionally
Don't go any bigger than 15" (or 16 if you must) wheels.

Keep the white stripe!!! The black stripe is bad.
I'm undecided on whether to paint the skirts.

Lower to your hearts content.

just my opinion to make it look nice and tasteful and non-ricey. Laughing

Hey chrishulbert,
I was thinking of going with white wheels and todays someone told me that I should get wider spokee wheels too.. so your advice is good.

I'm also holding off painting the white stripe for now.

Why do you think I shouldn't paint the skirts?? Doesn't it make the car look lower?

Cheers mate.

IMO I reckon it needs some black, but you have a rare model ST162 so If i was you I'd keep it white, but get some larger rims, though I think I'd have to disagree with chrishulbert, white rims will over do the car, you need something to break it up a little, 6 spoke 16's, not chrome.
Hope that helps

in my opinion your only options are....

white stripe + wheels other than white
OR
white wheels + black stripe

Thanks for the comments guys.

This is what I'm gonna do:

Wheels: Matt finish, 5 spoke, but wider than those pictured.
Stripe: Leave it white for now.
Tint: Make it dark.
Skirts: Paint 'em white (makes car look lower IMO).
Springs: Hunt around for some.

Can anyone recommend good springs? I have no idea. Razz

Whats condition is your paint in ?

you could alwaysadd a nice pearl over the white to give it that extra special look ..

a nice silver pearly would make it look sleek and classy Smile

Paint's in very good condition.

I'm not too sure how pearl over white would look. Have you got any pics of similar paint jobs you could post?

Cheers.

I recommend KING springs cos' that's what most of my mates have and recommend them, their pretty cheap compared to other brands, and they can be cut without losing their strength.
Go the King Super Lows, the guy behind the counter will probably advise you not to do so, but don't listen to him cos' he'll make your car RallySpec, not good.

Pearl over white looks neat especially for a Celica, you won't need pics to prove it.

cutting springs aint a good idea in my books - a decent set of first stage lowered springs ( like what i have ) and some good 16's or 17's make the car look sweet ..

I should have pics of my gt4 up tomorrow evening for proof

I wouldn't go superlow king springs unless you want an illegal ride. i had low kings on mine (gave a 1 1/2 " drop) just cleared legal ground clearance rules by 5mm (105mm lowest piont) and still looked, but most importantly handled very well.

Also if you paint around the black base of your car white, you will be just like the rest of us 162 owners on here (ie rob, myself, scott) and it would look fine with the white door protector stripe.

I am probably going to get hit with a lot of critisism on this but on a white car, wrx color gold, or type R gunmetal grey would look alright for the rims.

Champagne rims is also neat, cos' I've got some so just ignore that comment.
But I reckon gold rims are going to attract too much attention on a white Sillicar, people will only look at the rims rather than the car. Gold WRX rims look ugly. sorry wiso.

MR KE70: Adobe Photoshop techniques. You just get a photo of a set of rims you like and a photo of your car at the same angle as the rims. Then use the pen tool to cut out the shapes, select path, copy & paste onto photo of car, ajust size to match. Presto!
If you wanna lower the car then use the pen tool and trace around the car skipping the wheels, cut & paste and move the car on a different layer to the height you want, then blend the backround, unless you work on a white backround. Hmmmmm

I must be bored? Smile

Yeah champagne mags will look good, and no I didn't say wrx mags, just the color, wrx mags are gay. The color looks good I could have had a set of six spoke gold mags on my white 162, looked f@#king awsome, but out of my price range at the time.
