Hi folks,
Well I think I can flog my Charade off to my brother, so I'm considering getting into a Toyota. I've been offered a cheap RA65 celica by a friend. Any thoughts on this model?

ive got an RA60, my mate has a SA63. Both are great cars, only complaints is the lack of balls.... the 21R-c in the RA60 is only like 67kw and I think the 2S-C in the SA63 is about 76kw (not sure)
I think the RA65s (correct me in I'm wrong) are fuel injected 2.4 litre (22R-E)....so thats a plus.
I guess I'm kinda inexperienced but hey, I reckon they are sweet cars.

The RA65 is definitely the pick of the bunch when it comes to third-gen Celicas. They came with the bigger engine (yes a 22R-E), fuel injection, IRS, and a few other goodies the earlier models missed out on. It's no race car but it's a nice runabout and the mechanicals are bulletproof.
I just wish I could find one at the wreckers; they happen to have the exact diff ratio I want for my Supra!

I've been to Salisbury Wrecking, ABC Wrecking (both of them) and Boss Wrecking. They all have RA60's and SA63's galore, but not one RA65!

i've come across a couple of RA65's at a wrecker here. Although that may only be one as i might be confusing it with a SA63. Also seem to be seeing japanese celicas more often like SA60 and a SA63 with electric windows and mirrors, better quality seats etc..

RA65's are easy to identify - they have a 2.4 badge on the back.

The SA63 looks nearly the same as the RA65, but it has a 2S-C engine (2.0 litre carby) instead of a 22R-E (2.4 litre EFI). It also has a T series diff (IRS) while the RA65 has an F series.

what i meant was that it was a while ago so can't exactly remember what exact model they were especially since half the car was missing. I do however have a couple 2.4 badges so there have been at least 2.
There are also some SA60's there and they had the american number plate lights ie. the lights are beside the numberplate, not on the bumper. also they have nicer seats and i have found some with electric mirrors.
norbie: what's the difference between the T and F diffs? i thought the 63 and 65 were pretty much identical.

T diff = 6.7" = weak as piss.
F diff = 7.5" = pretty strong. Mine has held up so far with a 400hp turbo six, a brass button clutch, and a fairly brutal driver.
