Pod Filters on Camry Vienta V6 Sun, 14 September 2003 12:05 Go to next message
Has anybody ever used a pod filter on the V6 Vienta Camry's ??

I'm interested in getting one but not sure if they affect the car at all and if they are worth it.

Are you able to fit one ??

Does the car use a MAP sensor or Air Flow MEter ??

Are adaptors available ??

What brand would you recommend ??

I have a friend with a Vienta V6 and has the K&N Panel filter, have you used this yet?

Cheers.

AFM.

I get a nice induction sound as it is with just a K&N panel replacement on the 5sfe. POD's arn't worth it.

I had one on my Vienta (when I owned one). Makes great noise, but performance increases are negligible.

Thanks for that Soarer.

Can you tell me more info though like what sort of filter it was and was it a standard adaptor.

I mean it wasn't a special shaped adaptor or filter like they have to use on the Magnas ??

I'm not after performance, just after the noise.

Appolo, on my ST184 5SFE i replaced the air filter with somethihng from super cheap about 3 months ago. Are you saying that i can get a K&N filter that just goes in the stock air box, or is it a new air box that you get? Would it make any difference to performance or induction sound or anything, or would it only be worth doing if my old filter was really really dirty and worn.

I got one to fit the factory airbox. Supercheap should be able to order one for you.

I can notice induction sound over the old paper filter. (Maybe because I was used to hearing it when I had my old corolla and know what to listen for). It's not a faint noise, but not exaggerated either. Sort of inbetween when you have the throttle on. I'd say it's just "nice" when you are say, giving it a little when going up a hill. Plus I get the "breath out" noise when I turn the engine off. Smile

As for performance, It will be flowing more air as it's a superior design to the paper filter, and being a flat panel, flows more direct air than a POD does at any rate. But due to my 5sfe engine management, there is no actual increased performance. If there was, only a real dyno would show it. My butt dyno notices no difference.

For me, the major draw was the fact I don't have to replace it every 20,000km's, and it came with a cool sticker I put on the top of the airbox. Smile
