      WTF is a jabber?
AE86 clutch Sun, 14 September 2003 13:10 Go to next message
Well I'm running the same clutch with the 4AGE that Ive since i bought the car (4AC). Lately it seems the power just isn't going anywhere, and i think my clutch is knackered. I'm wondering what sort of clutch i should be in the market for. I want something that ain't going to give out in 2 seconds, and one that can take a bit of rough treatment.

Is your 4AGE standard? 86kw or 100kw? FWD or RWD?

[edit] sorry, just saw your signature (AE86) so now I know its RWD.

You'll most likely find that a Daiken heavy duty clutch kit will suit your needs just fine. I've got one behind my 4AGTE & its holding on ok, even though it shouldnt really (165kw at the wheels)

the Daiken part number is R321NHD

cheers
Phil

I paid $230

but is your motor the 86kw or 100kw model! You need to specify this otherwise I could have given you the wrong part number. The 100kw clutch is bigger.

OK then, that's cool, the part number I gave you was for an 86kw motor.

Cheers

I agree with TE72...Definantly go Daikin/Exeedy . Best value for money. I've always used Exeedy clutches and never had a problem. Using an Exeedy heavy duty in my ae86 at the moment.

Cheers

quick check to see if your clutch is knackered:

drve along in first or seocnd gear, travel along at a constant 4000 rpm or so (or wherever your engine makes torque) then punch the accelerator to the metal, if your clutch is slipping it should rev out without making the car go much faster.

i recommend you check out race brakes in flemington, i got a clutch for my 4AC from them, (i think they are the same clutch with either engine) and they charged less than burson's trade price.

they'll probly be able to get you an uprated one pretty easily.

I believe that the 4ac & 4age clutches are a little bit different in some way, someone may want to eleboarte this further. The flywheels have different amount of bolts dont they.

I heard this from some mechanic somewhere.

My ae86 (4age) has a exeedy h/duty item, cost me about $270 from memory. Hasnt given one once of trouble, been in car for about 8,000kms

Hope this helps

I think you'll find that a worn clutch is much LESS likely to slip in the lower gears. you normally start to notice it mostly in 3rd or 4th gear around peak torque up a hill.
