For a 7AGE conversion?? I know of a couple of blocks + cranks up here (could be gone), how much did you want to pay?

johnny,
not a 7age - 8age actually.
been offered whole motor for $550, so it would have to be somewhat cheaper than that!

T,
The one's here are gone ($250 each), but he does have a complete engine for $700 (low km jap import)
TRS? what do they want for that? last time I got a quote it work out around the $3000 mark (excl freight)! if I knew where to get crankshafts made here, I'd probably get a price on what they're worth and work out a local cost to do it....

bummer!! $250 would have been perfect!
not trs- get it done locally
a properly built 8age wil set you back about $6k - that's with different psitons, cams, argo rods, very modified crank etc. good for 230hp with a flat torque curve.

johnny,
it's an 8 because you bore & stroke it out to almost 2L - the weakest link is the crank unfortunatly (unless you want to spend $3k on a billet item of course) so it's limited to about 7,500 rpm

matt,
what sort of $$ might you be asking for your motor? (could help with 20v conversion too by the way)
on a 7ag (etc) motor, the crank is the weakest link - to incress the capacity you have to do quite a few mods (over $1k worth) to the crank. a billet crank would solve the problem, but it is just another expense.

Toby,

I thinkn this was meant for steve...

let me guess who said that? Toyosports? They're wrong! the weakest link is the conrods on the Aussie variant as the crank is billet/forged... how do I know? (homologation papers, rebuilds, etc Conrods are the only thing that has broken in 3 years of running the 7AFE @ 7500RPM in rallys.. broke them in a bad gear change taking the engine to 9,000+ what also stops it passing this is the weight and stroke of the things.(i'm not having a dig at you, T , just letting you know) Well all things aside, I have found a crank (but spun bearing!) no block, an also wanting to stroke my 7A out to 2L, may be a bit of colabritration?

i don't speak to toysports at all. that was from our engine builder, who uses argo rods in his motors - when i was up in nsw last month i looked ath the remains of one of his 8age motors that had been run up to 9k - it did not live.
already know where i can get another crank, just still looking for block (i was told where there was a new one some yesrs ago though)
mat,
$1k not a bad price but too much when all i want is the block and crank!!
we sell silver top 20v motors, and i canget new looms made to run the factory computer.
8ag is a 7af block, with a 4age head, bored and stroked out.

Yeah i thought it was a good price but new it wouldn't be for u as you don't need the whole thing. It's cool don't need a 20v i got one AE111 blacktop got a half-cut its cool. i was thinking of doing that when first considering to swap the head of the 7afe to a 4age cause its supposed to be really good and everyone reckoned that it will just sit straight on but after a bit of research found out it was a bit more involved i think like the stroke wasn't long enough amoung other things and it would have cost a bit and a lot of converting to do that, or sum thing so instead of mucking around wit that just got a 20v imported which is cool for me

hi jonny, what homologation papers do you have exactly???. As I have a couple of old GpA racers, they could prove handy. Will happily pay for any effort. My fax # is 07-38140955. thanks in advance
